A new report indicates that the Office of Special Counsel is officially launching a probe into Jack Smith.
According to the New York Post, this will be the first look into Smith’s conduct as he waged two criminal investigations on President Donald Trump during former President Joe Biden’s administration. One of the investigations probed Trump’s handling of classified documents while the other revolved around the events of January 6, both of which would eventually be dismissed.
“An email reviewed by The Post states the Hatch Act Unit, which enforces a law restricting government employees from engaging in political activities, has begun reviewing the former Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice. The email was written by Senior Counsel Charles Baldis at OSC,” The Post reports.
Senate Intelligence Committee chair Sen Tom Cotton, R-Ark., celebrated the move to hold Smith “accountable.”
“I appreciate the Office of Special Counsel taking this seriously and launching an investigation into Jack Smith’s conduct. No one is above the law,” he said. “Jack Smith’s actions were clearly driven to hurt President Trump’s election, and Smith should be held fully accountable.”
“Jack Smith’s legal actions were nothing more than a tool for the Biden and Harris campaigns. This isn’t just unethical, it is very likely illegal campaign activity from a public office,” he added. “Many of Smith’s legal actions seem to have no rationale except for an attempt to affect the 2024 election results – actions that would violate federal law.”
Republicans have long criticized Smith’s actions as a weaponization of the justice system to punish Biden’s political opposition, which Cotton reiterated following the probe’s launch:
“These actions were not standard, necessary, or justified. They were the actions of a political actor masquerading as a public official.”

But we aren’t really getting anything substantially done (in regards to the corruption). It’s all been investigate, strong letters, or ignoring it.

To get serious for a moment. I want the DOJ to take their time with these investigations, because they better make sure they can get a conviction because if they dont get convicted they can say it was all legit no matter what evidence we have seen
I dont know if that makes any…— Mark Bissonnette (@meinfl57) August 2, 2025
Until justice is actually served, everyone in power has shown they are very comfortably above the law.
