Today I want to look at another aspect to the synagogue of Satan question. And another reason that makes Israel an unlikely candidate for this designation. And that is the idea that because there are evidently Israelis who do not possess the DNA of Old Testament Israel they can not be the Israel of God. Even though they claim to be.
And while considering this it occurred to me that, at least in my opinion, those who believe the Israel in the land today are not the Israel of the Old Testament got this all wrong. In fact, they got this exactly backwards.
What makes an Israelite and Israelite? Is it their DNA? Or is it the God in whom they have believed and serve? Or is it both? I contend that it is generally both. But, not always.
We can see this by the fact that in the Old Testament Israel allowed foreigners, people who did not come from the loins of Jacob’s 12 sons, to become part of Israel. Lev.19,24, and Ex.12 for example. And after a few generations were allowed to participate in all the ceremonies other Israelites could. Their offspring becoming full Israelites.
This means that DNA other than that which came from the 12 sons of Jacob had already been introduced into their gene pool way back then. So why would it be a disqualifier for an Israelite to have DNA different from those sons? It wouldn’t be. Rather, it would actually be proof they are Israel.
So the only plausible explanation for those who believe the Israel in the land today is not the same Israel God made covenant with in olden times is because those who are claiming this have an agenda that this information fits well with.
That agenda is that they read the Israel that is there today into the “synagogue of Satan” scripture spoken of in Rev.3:9. Using this passage they find reason like their fathers Augustine, Luther, and Calvin to hate the Jews.
But, there is a Biblical explanation for this DNA issue found in the prophets and teachings of Jesus. Israel was told in Mt.24 that there was soon coming a time of hardship for them. That the temple was going to be destroyed and they would have to flee.
This time is known as the diaspora. The time when Israel fled her homeland given to her by God to find refuge from their persecution elsewhere. In this diaspora they would come to live among people not of their lineage.
It was through this that their DNA would more than ever before be mingled with the DNA from other people groups all over the world. Making their DNA different from the DNA of the 12 sons of Jacob.
And no wonder. Because in Gal.3 we find that under the law there was a purpose for Israel keeping their bloodline pure. It was to be “till the seed should come to whom the promise was made”. But, afterward there would no longer be any need for this because the dispensation that followed was one in which all men, both Jew and the rest of the nations, would be given the message of salvation of the grace of God.
So it seems to me based upon these truths that using the issue of their DNA not being the same to prove they are the ones Rev.3:9 says “say they are Jews but are not but are the synagogue of Satan” does not follow the Biblical narrative.
And people who do this should be ashamed of themselves for forcing their opinions onto the scriptures. Rather than letting the scriptures speak for themselves. If they would they would know that those who claim to have replaced Israel as God’s chosen people are the synagogue of Satan. Otherwise known as replacement theology.
Because what we have here is again more hatred for Israel spilling into these people’s theology. Just like their church fathers who hated Israel so do they. People like Augustine, Luther, and Calvin. The same people who gave to the church the pagan and gnostic doctrine of original sin and sin nature.
Doctrines that deny that Jesus came in the flesh. And force law into the time when Paul says there was no law. And because there was no law Paul says that the sin Adam and any after him until Moses committed was not imputed to them.
Making a lie of the doctrine of original sin. As well as the notion that all men have inherited a nature from Adam that governs their choices so that they can do nothing other than sin against God and others.
But, back to Israel and her place in prophecy today. If the Israel in the land today is not the Israel of prophecy then we are not in the last of the last days. And any signs we perceive as showing us that we are seem so because we are reading them into the prophecies. And not because they are actually fulfillments of them.
Preterists and others like them would like nothing more than to be able to prove this to be true. Because they do not believe any of the prophecies have not already been fulfilled in antiquity.
But, if Israel is the Israel the prophesies speak of. Then she is indeed what many prophecy teachers call a super sign. Because her being in her own land having her own nation again is proof that God has not cast her aside because of her rejection of Jesus.
But, instead shows that God is preparing the ground for her final time of tribulation. And the last 1/2 of the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy is close to its fulfillment. When Israel will be shaken to her core so that she will cry out to God as she did in the days of old. And at just the right time Jesus will come with the believers, the one new man, that trusted in Him before the harpazo. To defeat her enemies. And to see her recognize finally her true messiah.
Again, we need to recognize that it is because of the fact that some Jews have different DNA that the Israel today is the Israel God said He would bring back into her land in the last of the last days. The converts of the Old Testament and the diaspora require such a variety in DNA. Not the other way around as so many who hate Israel today are saying.
And why do they hate her? They claim it is because she is doing terrible things to her neighbors. Killing and starving the people in Gaza, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights.
But, the real reason goes deeper than this. It is a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Men hate Israel because God called her out and not them and made her a nation. The hatred of Israel then is satanic.
But, there is an Israel of God that is greater than this ethnic Israel. And to be a part of the spiritual Israel Paul spoke of in Gal.6:15 saying, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.” Indeed, to become this “new creature” Paul also speaks of in 2Cor.5:17, all men, both Jew and gentile, need to pay heed to Paul’s words in Eph.2 where he said,
“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
To become this new creature Paul says we must confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus. And believe in our heart that He has raised from the dead. Do this and you will be saved. Do this and you will have eternal life now. And immortality at the resurrection. Do this… and I will see you there or in the air!
