The family of 24-year-old hostage Evyatar David released a harrowing video on Saturday showing him in visibly dire physical condition, a day after Hamas published what it claimed was a “sign of life” from the captive.
The footage, released with the family’s consent and confirmed by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, shows David appearing emaciated, his bones protruding beneath his skin. He is seen sitting in what appears to be a tunnel, documenting his daily food intake in a handwritten chart. On several days, the chart reads “no food,” while on others it lists only “lentils.”
Hamas distributed an additional video on Saturday, dated July 27, in which David speaks and describes his deteriorating condition. That recording has not yet been cleared for publication.
David’s family issued a strongly worded statement, accusing Hamas of intentionally starving him for propaganda purposes.
David’s family issued a strongly worded statement, accusing Hamas of intentionally starving him for propaganda purposes.
“We are forced to witness our beloved Evyatar, our son and brother, being deliberately and cynically starved in Hamas tunnels in Gaza. He is a living skeleton, buried alive,” the statement said. “Our son has only days left to live in his current state. Hamas is using Evyatar as a live experiment in a grotesque hunger campaign.”
