When so-called “civilized” Western nations start sounding more sympathetic to terrorists than to the victims of terrorist massacres, something has gone terribly wrong. That’s exactly the disgraceful spectacle we’re witnessing from countries like the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, who are now openly signaling they’ll recognize a Palestinian state in September—effectively rewarding Hamas for the bloodshed of October 7.
Meanwhile, in a twist that exposes just how upside-down the moral compass of the West has become, it’s Arab nations—yes, Arab nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—that are showing more moral clarity than some of our closest traditional allies. As former Arkansas Governor and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee rightly pointed out on NewsNation’s “On Balance,” “It was the Saudis, the Qataris, and the Emiratis who said to Hamas, lay down your weapons, let the hostages go. My gosh, think about what a contrast that is.”
Let that sink in. Nations that for decades were considered adversaries to Israel are now taking a clearer moral stand than the governments of London, Paris, and Ottawa.
This isn’t just diplomatic posturing—it’s a fundamental moral failure by the West. The October 7 terror attack by Hamas was not some ambiguous conflict. It was evil, plain and simple. Innocent civilians were butchered. Women were raped in front of their children. Grandmothers were burned alive in their wheelchairs. These aren’t acts of war. They’re crimes against humanity. And yet, instead of standing unanimously with the victims, Western leaders are bending over backwards to appease the murderers.
Huckabee didn’t mince words, and he was right not to. “I just wish the Europeans and some of the other nations that are supposed to be highly developed, highly civilized would have picked the side of the civilized people and not the uncivilized savages,” he said. That’s the kind of moral clarity we need more of.
And thankfully, President Trump continues to provide it. As Huckabee noted, “President Trump, today, spoke with clarity, with moral clarity. And he called out the bad guys for who they are.” That’s leadership—something the Biden administration sorely lacked when it hemmed and hawed, tried to play both sides, and sent mixed messages that emboldened Hamas and their backers.
Let’s be absolutely clear: Recognizing a Palestinian state under current conditions is not a “two-state solution.” It’s a reward for terrorism. It’s a declaration that terror pays. It tells Hamas and other Islamist groups that if you slaughter enough civilians, take enough hostages, and scream loud enough on the world stage, you’ll eventually get what you want.
That’s not diplomacy. That’s surrender.
Western leaders like those in the UK, France, and Canada are making the catastrophic mistake of believing they can buy peace through appeasement. History has already taught us how that ends. Neville Chamberlain tried that with Hitler in 1938. How did that work out?
The only path to peace is through strength and moral certainty. That’s what Trump understands. That’s what Huckabee is reminding us. And that’s what Arab nations—surprisingly—are beginning to model better than the so-called enlightened elites of Europe.
If the British, French, and Canadian governments want to throw Israel under the bus, they should at least be honest about what they’re doing. They’re choosing to stand with Hamas, a group that doesn’t want peace, doesn’t want coexistence, and doesn’t want a future for either Palestinians or Israelis. They want one thing: the eradication of the Jewish state.
Huckabee nailed it when asked if these nations have chosen Hamas over Israel. “That’s a very fair statement,” he said. “It sounds harsh. But how else can you interpret it?”
You can’t. Because it’s not harsh—it’s reality. And it’s time the American people and our leaders recognize that reality. We must stand with our allies who stand for civilization, not with those who excuse barbarism. That means unwavering support for Israel, unapologetic condemnation of Hamas, and a foreign policy rooted in moral clarity—not cowardly compromise.
