The power for this kind of life is had by all who have trusted in Jesus. This is true. But, the doctrine churches proclaim and believe says just the opposite. Because they believe and teach that every believer in Jesus has a sin nature that compels them to sin. And there is nothing they can do to stop it.
They use scriptures like Rom.7 that teaches about the idolatry of the law in an attempt to prove the sin nature is a real thing. Saying that when Paul writes about sin in my members he is talking about this sin nature.
When in reality he is showing the idolatry of the law that has been ingrained in the Jew from birth by his Jewish teachers who made righteousness something that is achieved by the works of the law. Rather than by the faith of Abraham as Genesis and Rom.4 so beautifully explains.
When I have shown people the scriptures that say we can stop sinning. They generally respond by asking “Are you saying you do not sin?” As if it’s a gotcha question. Because they think that the Bible says everyone must sin continually because of their sin nature.
However when we look deliberately at the scriptures we find that there were indeed people who kept the law without ever breaking even one part of it. Meaning that sin as they define it can be avoided completely.
Luke 1:5,6 comes to mind where Zachariah and Elizabeth are described this way. Saying that “6 they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.”
But, when confronted with this information those who have been deceived by the doctrine of original sin and sin nature are quick to refute it saying, “that’s not what that means”. As if just their statement saying so without any scripture saying otherwise, or buy using scripture out of context proves they are right.
The same blameless news in reference to law keeping can be gleaned from what God says of Job in Job1. And how Paul describes himself in Phil.3:6. Showing us that Jews kept the law blamelessly as a rule. And not the exception.
This is why Paul gave us who know the truth instruction for dealing with this when he wrote in 2Tim.2:25,26 about people who oppose themselves. Saying that in meekness we must instruct “those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
These are those who like the pastor who wrote this as he explained the need for Jesus’ death and resurrection said, “Jesus’ resurrection assures us that we have the power to live the Christian life. Romans 8:11–12 says, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. . . . Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do” (NLT). No sin, habit, addiction, or vice can match the power of God.”
Now as awful as the NLT is, we can see where these people even in their favorite (mis)translations do oppose themselves. Because these are the same people who interpret 1John1:9 to mean that everyone sins every day. And must confess those sins to be cleansed from them. And can not keep from sinning because his choices are subject to his sin nature. But, this is the opposite from what this pastor who also believes this about 1John 1:9 said above.
And there is another problem this strong delusion creates that shows their opposition to their own selves when comparing what it teaches with what the Bible says. The fact that Jesus did not die in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.
Because a god that would demand such a thing is not the God of love the Bible says God is, but a monster. A monster the likes of Moloch. Who demanded the innocent die in place of the wicked to satisfy his wrath. To pay the penalty for violating his demands.
This is why I refer to the doctrine of original sin and sin nature as the strong delusion. Because it is the most diabolical and subtle lie the serpent ever told. Because believing it joins a man to the likes of Moloch. Rather to the true God Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
It does this through subtlety and deception. The same kind of deception the antichrist will employ to deceive people to take the mark of the beast of Rev.13.
Using the penalties the law required as payment for sins under the law. The serpent convinces them that this is the reason Jesus had to die. When what we see in a careful study of God’s word is that the reason Jesus had to die was to give power to a New Covenant.
It was His coming that brought an end to the purpose the law was given. Which was for Jesus’ coming to fulfill the purpose of the law being given to Israel in the first place. Which was because God wanted Israel to be preserved as a people through whose bloodline their messiah was to come. This is what Paul says was the purpose of the law in Gal.3:19.
And with Jesus’ death giving power to a New Covenant wherein is eternal life. There is now a covenant that has no law that is entered into by grace through faith, not of works lest any man should boast. Eph.2:8,9. So that all who will believe, both Jew and gentile, will be saved.
And now that you know why Jesus had to die. And that it had nothing to do with either a penalty being paid or to give us a new nature that is still subject to the old nature. But, as Paul says in Rom.6:23 is free from sin because it is not under the law. What will you do with this new information?
Will you make a concerted effort to grow in this truth? To study to show yourself a workman who is approved of God. Knowing how to rightly divide the word of Ruth?
Or will you keep living under the slavery of sin Paul says we who have believed are set free from? Not solely to escape from a so called penalty for them. But, free from sin itself in all of its forms. For the Jew because he is no longer under the law. And for the gentile because he no longer “strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”
If you are one who has believed the doctrine of original sin and sin nature, will you allow Jesus to deliver you from the captivity of Satan who deceived you into believing the strong delusion? Will you be set free in the liberty that is found only in Christ? To know that sin does not have dominion over you.
And that you do not have a nature that compels you to sin. So that contrary to what these false teachers say you do not have to sin. But, can choose of your own free will to love as Jesus loves.
If you will then simply confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. And believe in your heart that He has raised from the dead. And you will be saved. Holding the belief in Jesus who lived as a man under the law. Joining with us in our mortality. So that by faith we can join with Him in eternal life and immortality.
It was for this reason Jesus came into the world. To show natural men how to become spiritual. This is what His life, death, and resurrection accomplished for us.
Do this and heaven will be your eternal home. And love, joy, and peace will be yours for all eternity. Do this and a spirit will be created in you that makes you God’s child. And as His child not subject to sin, but rather an heir to His kingdom. Do this… and I will see you there or in the air!
