The FBI launched a federal investigation this week into what police say was a “violent attack” in downtown Cincinnati that has made global headlines and re-ignited safety concerns, according to Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno.
“The FBI has been and will continue closely coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department,” a spokesman for the Cincinnati office of the FBI tells FOX19 NOW.

At least one person who was hurt in the brawl was interviewed by the FBI on Wednesday and then, in the same location immediately after, met separately with Cincinnati police for another interview, a source tells FOX19 NOW.
Despite the separate interviews, the person hurt in the brawl was told the two agencies “are working together,” according to the source.
Earlier this week, Moreno put out a news release titled: “Moreno Secures Federal Investigation into Cincinnati Mob Attack.”

The Justice Department spokesperson who declined comment Tuesday directed us instead to the social media accounts of Bondi and Harmeet Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Our federal hate crimes laws apply to ALL Americans. We@CivilRights will monitor closely how local authorities handle this attack,” Dhillon said in a post on X as she shared one from Moreno.
“Nobody in our great nation should be the victim of such a crime, and where race is a motivation, federal law may apply.”
