Summer is known for many different things, some may think of barbeques and cookouts, maybe some think beach days and road trips. For many, blockbuster movie releases come to mind. Summer is usually ripe with at least 1 or 2 mega blockbuster superhero movie releases.
This summer is no exception, with Superman and Fantastic Four bringing large crowds to the movie theatre. For the sake of this article, we will be taking a closer look at the new Marvel movie release, “Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
At first look, the movie is full of endless action and adventure. However, from the first trailer I saw, I was intrigued by the style of the movie. It blends 1960s New York with futuristic technology, blending together surprisingly well.

Another thing that intrigued me from the first look was the storyline, involving the Fantastic Four welcoming a new member, a baby to the mix.
Now, let’s get into the movie. The Fantasic 4 are a team of superheroes, former astronauts who were exposed to radiation in space and returned to earth with superpowers. The movie briefly sets all of this up and introduces these 4 heroes as celebrities, pursuing celebrity and political power.
The movie begins with the main characters of married couple of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, finding out they are going to have a baby. They are overjoyed and view this as a blessing, not a hindrance.
The movie is pro-life and family for various reasons. The first was briefly mentioned, as the couple as well as the other members of the Fantastic Four, Johnny and Ben, are overjoyed by the news.
Second, Sue continues with her duties as a scientist and a superhero while pregnant. This supports the idea that women can have a career while still keeping their child and raising that child.
Third, the movie even shows the baby inside the womb in a stunning scene, thanks to an advanced piece of technology that portrays the ultrasound in a hologram type way.
The movie gets even more pro-life from there. The Fantastic 4 have to confront an otherworldly space being set on destroying Planet Earth. He will spare the planet if Sue Storm gives up her baby. The evil warlord named Galactus claims that the baby will grow up to have unique and extreme supernatural powers. The claim is there: give the baby up for destruction, and save the planet.
Sue gives birth, and the Fantastic Four celebrate their new arrival. She gives birth in space. Back on Earth, they announce the decision to the entire planet that they will not sacrifice the child; instead, they will find another way. Initially, this draws fear, disgust, and anger from the public who believe it is a noble sacrifice to save the planet. However, through a compassionate speech, Sue explains that the team of heroes, along with the support of the general public, will find a way to protect the baby and save the planet.
The movie is beautiful and shows just how far a parent, especially a mother, will go to protect their baby. I believe the movie had a beautiful pro-life and pro-family message. What I liked is, the movie and the message were presented in a way that won’t be viewed as preachy, which will be great to appeal to an even broader audience and present pro-life values. Not only did the movie have an amazing message, but it didn’t have to sacrifice the storyline, action, adventure, and that classic ‘superhero’ feel.
The filmmakers did an excellent job, presenting a captivating story with beautiful styling while also conveying a feel-good message that can resonate with so many people.
