It’s official: the Democratic Party has hit rock bottom. According to the latest Wall Street Journal poll, just 8% of registered voters view the Democrats “very favorably.” Let that sink in. Eight percent. That’s the lowest approval rating the party has seen in over 30 years. This isn’t just a political cold snap—it’s a full-blown ice age for the Left.
Even worse for the Democrats, 63% of voters now believe the party is “out of touch” with everyday Americans. And they’re right. These are the same Democrats who spent the last four years lecturing Americans about pronouns, climate hysteria, and “systemic racism” while ignoring skyrocketing inflation, illegal immigration, violent crime, and the collapse of affordable housing. They’ve abandoned the working class in favor of fringe ideologies and coastal elites—and now they’re paying the price.
Meanwhile, Republicans are surging ahead in the areas that matter most. The GOP now leads Democrats on 8 of the 10 top issues tested in the poll—including the economy, border security, and crime. These aren’t side issues—they’re the bread and butter of American life. Families want safety, affordability, and a government that works for them—not against them.
This is a referendum not just on policy but on priorities. As Bill McInturff, a respected Republican pollster, put it, “We were already observing a reversal in fortunes for the Republican Party by this point in 2017; that’s not the situation today.” He’s right. In 2017, the Democrats were riding a wave of media-fueled outrage over Trump’s first term. In 2025, that wave has crashed—and it’s the Left that’s drowning.
Let’s be clear: President Donald Trump is not universally loved. According to the same poll, he still holds a net unfavorability rating of -7. But here’s the key difference—voters trust Republicans, even if they don’t always love individual leaders. When they look at the two parties, they see one offering solutions and the other offering slogans. And slogans don’t put food on the table.
During the 2024 election, Trump defeated Kamala Harris by 2 points in the popular vote and crushed her 312 to 226 in the Electoral College. That wasn’t just a victory—it was a mandate. And yet, Democrats still haven’t learned. They’ve doubled down on the same failed strategies: identity politics, government overreach, and economic policies that punish producers and reward bureaucracy.
Even their so-called “wins” are telling. The only two areas where Democrats lead Republicans are health care and vaccine policy—two sectors heavily tied to government control. That tells you everything about where their priorities lie. More mandates. More central planning. More Washington.
John Anzalone, a Democrat pollster who helped conduct the WSJ survey, admitted the obvious: “The Democratic brand is tarnished to the point where they lack the credibility to critique Trump or the Republican Party.” That’s a stunning confession. It’s rare to hear that level of honesty from the Left, but it underscores how deep the rot goes.
Now, some will point to the poll’s finding that 46% of voters would still back a Democrat for Congress, compared to 43% for Republicans. But context matters. That 3-point edge is minuscule compared to the 8-point advantage Democrats held at this point in Trump’s first term. In other words, they’re bleeding support—and fast.
The road to the 2026 midterms is already underway, and Democrats are scrambling. They’re trying to “reconnect” with working-class voters, but you can’t fake authenticity. You can’t undo years of contempt for middle America with a few focus-grouped soundbites. Voters remember who shut down their businesses, who let their cities burn, and who told them their values were outdated and offensive.
The GOP, under Trump’s leadership, has a golden opportunity. Voters are desperate for sanity, strength, and sovereignty. They want a government that secures the border, protects the economy, defends the police, and honors American values. Republicans don’t need to reinvent the wheel—they just need to keep giving the American people what they’ve been asking for all along: common sense, law and order, and a future they can believe in.
The Democrats have lost the thread. And unless they find it fast, 2026 will be another red wave—and this one might just wash them out for good.
