Leaders in major cities across the United States have implemented new security measures as a precaution following the U.S. airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Knewz.com has learned that although some cities have bolstered police presence, it has been reported that these measures are cautious and not a statement of perceived threat.
Heightened Security Measures

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a statement on X, “Following the strikes in Iran, I have been briefed on our coordination with federal partners regarding efforts to assess threats and protect Washington, D.C. … Together, we are monitoring intelligence and, as always, ask everyone to stay vigilant. If you see something, say something.” According to the Metropolitan Police Department, more officers are being stationed near religious institutions in the District following the military strikes. Local authorities have said that they are coordinating with state partners to help safeguard citizens, businesses and visitors. The Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement saying it was “actively coordinating with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners to share information and monitor intelligence in order to help safeguard residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia.”
NYPD Deploys Additional Resources

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) stated in a press release on X that it was “deploying additional resources to religious, cultural and diplomatic sites” in the city “out of an abundance of caution.” New York City Mayor Eric Adams shared a statement regarding the matter, saying, “This morning, New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch and I convened our international liaisons for a briefing to discuss the situation in the Middle East and how it affects us here at home… Out of an abundance of caution, we have increased police presence at religious, cultural and diplomatic sites throughout the five boroughs.” Mayor Adams further wrote, “We also continue to work with our state and federal partners to keep New Yorkers safe. I’m thinking of all the New York City families who may be affected by these developments, especially our large Persian community.” The NYPD commissioner also noted that more than a dozen of the department’s detectives are embedded with international law enforcement agencies, where they monitor global tensions and assess their potential impact on New York City. “They have also gone above and beyond, using their contacts to help New Yorkers seeking to evacuate and get home,” she posted on X.
Los Angeles Steps Up Security Near Sensitive Sites

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said that while there are “no known credible threats,” the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was “stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces and other sensitive sites.” According to reports, Bass said the move is being done out of an abundance of caution and that the city “is closely monitoring for any threats to public safety.” She added, “We will remain vigilant in protecting our communities.” Julian Zelizer, a professor of political history at Princeton University, commented on the increased security measures, saying, “Given that one tool of Iranian warfare has been state-sponsored terrorism, it makes sense to ramp up security as a precaution as this conflict unfolds.”
Operation Midnight Hammer: Trump’s Strike on Iran

The spark behind these security measures was “Operation Midnight Hammer,” a U.S.-led air assault targeting Iran’s key nuclear development facilities. President Donald Trump claimed that B-2 stealth bombers “obliterated” Tehran’s ambitions of building a nuclear bomb. The bombings came after a week of heavy Israeli attacks on Iranian military and nuclear sites, part of a rising wave of regional confrontation. Following the airstrike, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a statement, “The Americans must receive a response to their aggression… We have always stated that we are ready to engage and negotiate within the framework of international law, but instead of accepting logic, the other side has demanded the surrender of the Iranian nation.”
