For far too long, leaders in Washington have wasted hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars on woke and weaponized programs, including outright propaganda that only the faculty of Harvard could support. The White Houseās rescissions package reins in this waste and restores common sense as we work to get our fiscal house in order. The legislation to codify Department of Government Efficiency cuts has already passed the House, and now itās time for the Senate to finish the job.
The American people know waste, fraud, and abuse when they see it, and this $9.4 billion package of proposed cuts represents the worst of the worst.Ā
For decades, National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service have served as leftist propaganda outlets, and billions in federal tax dollars have subsidized their efforts. One study by the Media Research Center foundĀ 90% of the coverage of LGBTQ issuesĀ on PBSā flagship program, āPBS NewsHour,ā was dedicated to radical left-wing activists.Ā
Unsurprisingly, PBSĀ pushed the documentary āReal Boy,ā which glorifiesĀ transgender madness, as it follows a teen girlās ātransitioningā into a man. The network also used āPBS NewsHourā toĀ attack a small Texas townās annual Christmas paradeĀ for keeping the event family friendly and not allowing floats with drag queens.Ā
NPR is equally guilty of promoting leftist narratives at the expense of taxpayers. In a House hearing earlier this year, Rep. Jim Jordan grilled NPR CEO Katherine Maher over the networkās bias,Ā highlighting how their D.C. editorial staff hadĀ 87 registered Democrats and zero registered Republicans. Equally concerning, Rep. Tim Burchett used his time in that same hearing to question Maher about herĀ past tweets criticizing President Donald Trump, including ones where she called him a āfascistā and a āderanged racist sociopath.ā
Critics complain that defunding these outlets is silencing free speech. Thatās nonsense. PBS and NPR can be as insane as they wantābut I recommend they review CNNās ratings before they doāthey just canāt have taxpayer dollars to do it.
This rescissions package also targets over $8 billion in wasteful foreign aid programs, many of which have actively worked against the core interests of the United States and our foreign policy apparatus. Secretary Marco Rubio hasĀ highlighted this problemĀ on several occasions, arguing that every dollar spent on foreign aid must align with American interests in a given country.Ā
Some of the most concerning programs targeted by the White House include radical climate change initiatives, like theĀ World Bankās āClean Technology Fund.āĀ The Trump administration is focused on unleashing American energy dominance, and funding organizations that embrace anti-fossil fuel Environmental, Social, and Governanceāor ESGāpolicies directly contradicts that agenda.Ā
Each year, America ships over $50 billion to other countries, all while veterans are living on the streets, communities are without clean drinking water, and Americans are reeling from natural disasters like the recent floods inĀ TriadelphiaĀ andĀ Fairmont, West Virginia. We canāt afford to waste precious taxpayer resources on foreign aid programs likeĀ IraqiĀ Sesame Street, promotingĀ LGBTQ global movements, helping transgender sex workers in Nepal, or offering vasectomiesĀ for men in Zambia.Ā
Americans rejected globalism at the ballot box last November, and this rescissions package delivers on the America First agenda we promised voters. While Democrats and the left-wing media have engaged in a coordinated campaign meant to sow fearāgoing so far as to say this package will literally kill peopleānothing could be further from the truth.
These cuts are targeted directly at waste, fraud, and abuse. The American people canĀ see it all for themselvesĀ and make their own determination of whether these programs merit taxpayer investment.Ā
Iām proud to beĀ leading the Republican Study Committeeās Rescission Task ForceĀ here in the House, which serves as the tip of the spear for codifying the presidentās DOGE cuts. Make no mistake, this package is just round one. Itās our duty to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely, and the Senate needs to get on board ASAP.
