FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino reportedly returned to work Monday, but his future in the Trump administration still remains unclear.
Two sources confirmed to CNN that Bongino was back at the job on Monday after having walked out and threatened to quit last Friday out of anger over Attorney General Pam Bondi’s botched Epstein files rollout.
NEW: “Bongino is out of control furious. This destroyed his career. He’s threatening to quit and torch Pam unless she’s fired,” says person who has spoken with the deputy FBI director to NBC News.

The problem was that President Donald Trump “spent the weekend fuming over” Bongino’s threat to quit, leading to the belief “that the deputy director would depart his job in the coming days,” CNN notes.
The Daily Beast also confirmed that the president spent the weekend “privately fuming” over Bongino’s resignation threat.
The only saving grace for Bongino was Vice President J.D. Vance, who “spent the weekend attempting to mediate, at times fielding calls from” Bongino, Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel, according to CNN.
As of early Tuesday, it was unclear whether the deputy FBI director was still intent on resigning. What was clear was that “his relationship with the White House ha[d] become basically untenable,” CNN notes.
“Even if he does not quit now, some inside the administration believe he will not stay in the job long-term,” according to the network.
That being said, President Trump told reporters on Sunday that Bongino was still “in good shape.”
“I think so,” he said when asked if Bongino was still the FBI deputy director. “I spoke to him today. Dan Bongino is a very good guy. I’ve known him a long time. I’ve done his show many, many times. And he sounded terrific, actually, no, I think he’s in good shape.”
Plus, Attorney General Bondi has reportedly indicated she has no interest in firing Bongino and is leaving the job in his hands.

According to reports, Trump, for his part, just wants the Epstein drama to disappear, which is why his administration has been pretending that nothing happened.
“Attorney General Bondi, Director Patel, Deputy Director Bongino, and the countless other heroes of our law enforcement community are dedicated to executing President Trump’s agenda of protecting civil rights, safeguarding communities, holding criminals accountable, and defending victims,” White House spokesperson Harrison Fields said Monday.
“This work will continue in lockstep and with unprecedented success,” the statement concluded.
But it very much sounds like the MAGA base isn’t interested in laying the issue to rest.
“I have to be honest — it’s just a red line that it crosses for many people: Jeffrey Epstein is literally the most well-known, convicted pedophile in modern-day history,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told CNN’s Manu Raju on Monday.
“This is something that’s been talked about by many people serving in the administration, myself and many others on the right and the left, of there needing to be transparency of the rich and powerful elites that were in his circle while he was just one of the worst serial abusers of young women,” she added.
MTG says there’s “pretty big” blowback among MAGA base over the Trump administration’s handling of Epstein files.

Greene also took her complaints to X.
Look:
America deserves the truth about Jeffrey Epstein and the rich powerful elites in his circle.
The line is drawn with anyone who abuses children and vulnerable innocent people.
When George Santos is going to prison for 7 years but Epstein only served 13 months, our justice system…
