A Pennsylvania man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after committing one of the most disturbing crimes the state has seen in years.
Justin Mohn, 33, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Mohn fatally shot his father, Michael Mohn, on January 30, 2024, then decapitated him using a kitchen knife and a machete—and posted the aftermath on YouTube.
The video reportedly ran 14 minutes and featured Mohn holding up his father’s severed head, identifying him by name, and declaring, “He is now in hell for eternity.” The footage stayed online for several hours before it was removed.
Authorities later discovered Michael Mohn’s head stuffed in a plastic bag and placed inside a cooking pot near a bedroom. A machete was found in the bathtub and a large knife nearby. Justin Mohn was arrested the same day after he was caught trying to scale a fence at the Pennsylvania National Guard headquarters.
At trial, Mohn claimed he was trying to perform a “citizen’s arrest” on his father for treason. Prosecutors, however, called the murder “cold, calculated, and straight out of a horror film.” Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn described Mohn’s behavior as showing a “complete and utter lack of remorse.”
Investigators also revealed that Mohn was carrying a USB drive with photos of federal buildings and bomb-making instructions at the time of his arrest. His YouTube rant touched on anti-government views, immigration, and the war in Ukraine.
According to testimony, Mohn’s mother said police had previously warned them about his extremist online activity. She also shared that she and her husband had been financially supporting him while he searched for a job.
In a chilling twist, Mohn reportedly contacted the Russian ambassador in the U.S., offering an apology to President Putin for falsely claiming to be the czar of Russia and asking for political asylum.
