This coming Sunday marks one year since a 20-year-old gunman attempted to murder President Donald Trump as he spoke at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
As that anniversary draws near, the Secret Service revealed the prior suspension of six agents over their handling of the assassination attempt.Â
Agents disciplined
According to the New York Post, the suspended agents included Myosoty Perez, who was a member of Trump’s security detail.
Attorney Larry Berger is representing some of the agents in question, and he confirmed that Ms. Perez was among those who were suspended.
“She has fully cooperated already through all the investigations into the matter and she is now deciding what the next steps will be in this situation,” he was quoted as telling the newspaper.
The Post noted that while the other disciplined agents have not been identified, they included four senior figures at the Pittsburgh field office along with an individual who had been tasked with coordinating security at the event.
Husband of slain firefighter speaks out
Although Trump survived last year’s assassination attempt, local volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore wasn’t so fortunate, and he was fatally shot as he attempted to shield his family.
Helen Comperatore is his widow, and she lashed out at the Secret Service during a recent interview with the Post, calling it “garbage.”
“All I’ve wanted this entire time was to sit down with the men who screwed up that day and find out why. Why? Why at that rally? Why at that one in Butler?” she asked.
