A 15-year-old boy died early Friday morning after attempting to subway surf near Queensboro Plaza station in Long Island City, according to police.
The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. when the teenager was reportedly riding on top of a moving subway train. Officers responding to the scene found the boy unconscious and unresponsive. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have not yet released the teen’s identity. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The MTA and NYPD have repeatedly warned against the risks of subway surfing, citing a rise in injuries and fatalities linked to the trend, especially among teens.
