Authorities have arrested the estranged husband of a beloved California doctor months after she was found dead in a housefire at her home in San Marino.
The fire was reported shortly before 10 a.m. on January 6. Investigators found Irene Gaw-Lai, 56, dead at the scene with severe burns, KABC reported.
Investigators said at the time that Yoon Lai, 62 — also known as Kevin Lai — told them he had taken his twin 16-year-old sons to baseball practice, and when he returned, he saw the home was on fire.
Neighbors said the Lais were in the middle of a contentious divorce.
Following a lengthy investigation that included interviews with neighbors, the husband, and the couple’s sons and viewing surveillance footage, Yoon Lai was arrested on a murder charge.
Investigators have not released details of the murder but say they are presenting the case to the district attorney on Monday.
