Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has finally unveiled a revamped animatronic of President Donald Trump that doesn’t look like it’s auditioning for a Hillary Clinton biopic.
Newsweek reported that after a much-needed refurbishment, the Hall of Presidents attraction at Magic Kingdom reopened on June 29, 2025, showcasing an updated Trump figure that’s far more accurate than its 2017 predecessor, while also repositioning him at center stage alongside the other 44 U.S. presidents.
Let’s rewind to 2017, when the original Trump animatronic first debuted after an unusually long 11-month closure of the attraction following that year’s inauguration.
From 2017 Mishap to 2025 Makeover
Back then, visitors couldn’t help but notice the figure looked off—some even speculated Disney’s Imagineers had hastily reworked a design meant for Clinton, expecting a different 2016 outcome.
Disney never confirmed the rumor, instead citing the extended downtime as necessary to record Trump’s own voice lines, but the whispers of a last-minute switcheroo lingered like a bad theme park churro.
Fast forward to January 2025, when the Hall of Presidents closed again for renovations shortly after the latest inauguration, promising a quicker turnaround than the 2017 debacle.
Five months later, the attraction reopened with a Trump animatronic that’s a striking improvement, sporting a more lifelike hairdo, refined facial features, and that signature glower we’ve all come to recognize.
As Bridget Ziegler, a Trump supporter, noted on X, “Delivered faster (5 month turnaround vs 11mo in 2017) AND even more important – MUCH more accurate.” Well, Bridget, it’s hard to argue—Disney seems to have ditched the Hollywood guesswork for a figure that actually resembles our Commander in Chief.
The updated figure also takes its rightful place at the center of the stage, a spot traditionally reserved for the sitting president, while former President Joe Biden’s animatronic was shifted to the side.
Historic Repositioning in Hall of Presidents
In a historic twist, this marks the first time a former president’s figure has been moved back to the prime spot, thanks to Trump’s non-consecutive terms.
SparkcatcherBlog, a Disney Parks fan account on X, put it succinctly: “this is the first time a figure of a former president was re-positioned.” It’s a small but symbolic nod to a unique chapter in American history, one that even the most progressive park-goers can’t rewrite.
Disney also tweaked the audio, trimming Trump’s previous speech about American achievements down to just the oath of office, as reported by Walt Disney World News Today (WDWNT), which first broke the news of the facial updates.
While some might grumble that less dialogue means less of Trump’s spirit, it’s a pragmatic move—perhaps Disney’s way of avoiding the culture war crossfire that seems to haunt every corner of entertainment these days.
Looking ahead, the attraction is expected to stay as is through at least 2029, when it’ll close again to make way for Trump’s successor, giving us a few years to enjoy this refreshed take without the specter of 2017’s oddball design.
Disney’s latest effort shows they can still pivot away from past missteps, delivering a representation that respects the office, even if their timing and initial execution once raised eyebrows. Newsweek reached out to Disney for comment, and while no response date is specified, the proof is in the animatronic pudding.
