A renewed feud found Elon Musk offering some terse responses after President Donald Trump made a DOGE suggestion regarding the billionaire’s own companies.
“… Elon would probably have to close up shop …”
The One Big Beautiful Bill remained a thorn in the side of the collaboration between the president and the world’s richest man. Just like a Senate vote-a-rama carried on into the wee hours aimed at passing amendments, Musk continued to weigh in after Trump suggested it might be time to remove the tech titan’s subsidies and capitalize where there was “BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
As voting got underway, the SpaceX founder and CEO warned about primary challenges to all members of Congress voting at odds with campaign promises to cut spending, leading the president to call him out.
“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign,” wrote Trump on Truth Social overnight. “Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one. Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”
“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this?” he added. “BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
In response to Mario Nawfal asserting Trump’s take “is way off” by arguing Tesla was “hardly reliant on subsidies,” SpaceX “saves NASA billions,” and “Scrapping these innovations would irreparably harm the U.S., not Elon,” Musk reacted with a “direct hit” emoji after responding to another analysis that said, “Going against Elon and his companies is not advisable,” by stating, “Lead us not into temptation.”

Musk maintained his call for accountability on those seemingly turning their backs on campaign promises by posting Monday, “Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!”
“And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” the billionaire emphasized as he also said, “It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS, that we live in a one-party country — the PORKY PIG PARTY!!”
As for Trump’s threats on cutting subsidies, Musk was unmoved and responded, “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now.”

Meanwhile, only 21 Republican senators voted for an amendment to the OBBB introduced by Utah Sen. Mike Lee (R) that would have eliminated wind and solar credits, resulting in its rejection by a vote of 21-79.
“All I’m asking is that we don’t bankrupt America,” said the Tesla CEO, who invested tens of millions of dollars of his own money on helping Trump win the 2024 presidential election, along with races down ballot through the America political action committee.

Contrasting Musk’s take, the president maintained that the budget reconciliation legislation was the only means by which to prevent a “whopping 68% Tax increase, the largest in history,” while the billionaire threatened, “If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”
He went as far as to share an image of Pinocchio with the puppet’s pants on fire along with the text “LIAR” and “Voted to increase America’s DEBT by $5,000,000,000,000,” beneath the caption, “Anyone who campaigned on the PROMISE of REDUCING SPENDING, but continues to vote on the BIGGEST DEBT ceiling increase in HISTORY will see their face on this poster in the primary next year.”
