Senate Democrats have pulled out all the stops to deny President Donald J. Trump a massive win with the Fourth of July signing of his “Big, Beautiful Bill” and may yet get a big assist from a pack of GOP mutineers in the House.
As the grueling overnight Senate “vote-o-rama” drags on, drawing grumbling from Democrat Sen. John Fetterman, who had his vacation spoiled, a revolt against Trump’s signature legislation is brewing in the lower chamber, with Elon Musk stirring the pot.
On Monday afternoon, the deficit-obsessed House Freedom Caucus balked at supporting the legislation when it exits the Senate and gets dumped into the laps of House lawmakers who are facing a very narrow window to do their job in time for Trump’s big Fourth of July celebration.
The House budget framework was clear: no new deficit spending in the One Big Beautiful Bill.
The Senate’s version adds $651 billion to the deficit — and that’s before interest costs, which nearly double the total.
That’s not fiscal responsibility.

Led by chronic pain in the ass Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, the so-called House Freedom Caucus is once again threatening to spoil things for Trump by demanding “major changes” if they are to get behind the bill once it returns to the House where Republicans currently have a razor thin margin thanks to Democrat election cheating last year.
“The Senate must make major changes and should at least be in the ballpark of compliance with the agreed-upon House budget framework. Republicans must do better,” the hardliners demanded, something that isn’t likely going to happen at this juncture, given the difficulty in even getting to a final vote in the Senate.
Rep. Roy: “We’ve got to deliver for the President—but it has to be the right bill. One that actually stops the spending, ends the inflation, and stops subsidizing our own destruction.”https://t.co/WVYjSI2VmS

“We’ve got to deliver for the President,” the grandstanding Maryland-born congressman proclaimed, even if what could ultimately be delivered is a dagger buried in Trump’s back, by his so-called allies no less.
Apparently, their lofty principles are so important that Freedom Caucus members are willing to engage in hostage taking that could result in a major tax hike on Americans if they sabotage the process, throwing Trump’s signature bill into limbo and allowing bloodied Democrats to pick themselves back off the canvas before the knock out punch that the BBB’s passage and signing by Trump on Independence Day would represent.
“Republicans, the One Big Beautiful Bill, perhaps the greatest and most important of its kind in history, gives the largest Tax Cuts and Border Security ever, Jobs by the Millions, Military/Vets increases, and so much more. The failure to pass means a whopping 68% Tax increase, the largest in history!!!” Trump wrote in an early Tuesday post to Truth Social.
A failure to get behind Trump could prove to be very costly in the midterms, as in hasta la vista, GOP majority.
Adding to the discord over the now uncertain future of Trump’s bill is the former DOGE boss, who, after weeks of lying low after his ugly blowup, reemerged to call for a new political party and goad the Freedom Caucus into breaking with the president.
How can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the biggest debt ceiling increase in history?@RepAndyHarrisMD @chiproytx

The EV king who stands to take it in the trunks if Biden’s Green New Deal subsidies are revoked also vowed to devote his life to the ouster of any Republican who votes for the BBB.
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” Musk wrote in a red-hot X post on Monday. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
In the past, the Freedom Caucus has also made noise but backed down and supported Trump; however, the dynamic has changed now that Musk is in the mix.
Even though the bill has been gutted by craven and complicit GOP Senate leadership who refused to overrule the Democrat-appointed parliamentarian, it is still a big win for the American people who will be on the receiving end of a costly sucker punch if their taxes go up as a result of House Republicans refusing to be team players.
The Fourth of July may not be until Friday, but the fireworks are already going off.
