Hollywood superstar and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has stated that, despite the political climate for immigrants, the American Dream is now “easier” to achieve than it was during his own rise to fame. Speaking candidly during an interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, the Terminator actor reflected on shifts in opportunity, irrespective of political leadership in the U.S.
Schwarzenegger’s Journey

Schwarzenegger, who is renowned for his legendary roles in movies such as Predator and True Lies, moved to the United States from Austria in 1968 as a 21-year-old aspiring bodybuilder. Over the years, he transformed from a foreign newcomer into one of the most recognizable figures in global cinema, accumulating seven Mr. Olympia titles along the way. However, this latest assertion from the 77-year-old icon has created ripples, particularly in light of the current socio-political climate. When asked by Kuenssberg whether he believes the American Dream remains alive amidst the country’s ongoing turmoil, Schwarzenegger responded with optimism, declaring, “Are you kidding me? I see it first-hand almost all the time. I could go today to America as a 20-year-old boy and make it in exactly the same way. Maybe even easier.”
The American Dream

The actor attributed his steadfast belief in the American Dream to the nation’s enduring reputation as a land filled with possibilities: “America is the land of opportunity. No matter what. It doesn’t matter who is president,” he said. “Since I went over there, we had Nixon as president, we had Carter as president, we had Reagan as president. I mean the list goes on and on and on.” One striking example he shared involved a Nigerian trainer who works at a Gold’s Gym in Los Angeles. While detailing the trainer’s extraordinary success — earning $100 an hour and driving a Bentley convertible — Schwarzenegger emphasized, “He’s working his a** off. He deserves that Bentley. He deserves to be the best trainer. He’s working hard.”
Schwarzenegger’s Advice

The Last Action Hero actor posited that diligence and determination are the keys to unlocking one’s potential in the U.S., even amid skepticism lingering in political discourse: “So, the opportunities are out there. Anyone can go to America if you are willing to work hard and not use or abuse the system,” he stated emphatically. “There are all the opportunities in the world. America is still the shining city on the hill.”
The Austrian World Summit

With the political landscape becoming increasingly polarized, the former California governor delivered a direct message to environmentalists disillusioned by what they perceived as governmental apathy: At the Austrian World Summit in Vienna, he told attendees who criticized the Trump administration’s stance on climate change, “You can’t just sit around and make excuses because one guy in a very nice White House on Pennsylvania Avenue doesn’t agree with you.”
