There was even more drama than normal at one particular airport this morning, and everyone who rushed to get to their planes could have hit the snooze button at least one more time.
A bomb threat prompted the early Thursday morning evacuation of a Spirit Airlines plane at Detroit Metro Airport, as The Hill reported.
The jet was given permission to take off prior to its departure for Los Angeles.
The officials from the Wayne County Airport Authority stated that all of the passengers were safely extracted from the aircraft and transported to the Evans Terminal.
The Official Report
Multiple groups weighed in on the issue, taking steps to manage both the possible emergency and the public expectations, which no doubt made for a bad day for more than one person at the airport.
“On Thursday morning, the Wayne County Airport Authority’s Emergency & Support Services and Airfield Operations teams along with the TSA responded to a bomb threat involving a Spirit Airlines aircraft at Detroit Metropolitan Airport,” said an airport authority spokesperson.
“As a precaution, all passengers were safely deplaned and transported by bus to the Evans Terminal. The incident remains under investigation.”
Thanks to protocol, there is public records created any time there has to be an event, like an evacuation, taking place involving TSA.
From Spirit
Spirit Airlines also issued a statement, assuring customers and their families, that the airline acted with the highest standard of care.
“Law enforcement was requested to meet Spirit Airlines flight 2145 (DTW-LAX) prior to departure from Detroit (DTW) due to a potential security issue,” the company said. “The aircraft taxied to a remote location, and Guests were safely deplaned and transported back to the terminal.
The airline went on to explain the process of making sure everyone who should have been on the plane, was: “The Guests were rescreened, and the aircraft was inspected and cleared by law enforcement.
“The safety of our Guests and Team Members is our top priority, and we are working to get our Guests to their destination as soon as possible.”
Recent Restructuring
This event comes just a couple of months after the airline went through financial restructuring, announcing on March 12 that they exited Chapter 11 with “completing a consensual, deleveraging transaction that equitizes approximately $795 million of funded debt.”
Ted Christie, President and Chief Executive Officer said, “We’re pleased to complete our streamlined restructuring and emerge in a stronger financial position to continue our transformation and investments in the Guest experience.”
