Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have been trying to get Elon Musk under oath for quite some time.
However, once again, they have failed to make it happen.
A recent vote to subpoena Musk went along party lines, with the GOP blocking the move, 21-20.
Rejected
Thursday morning, the former head of DOGE was saved from having to testify before Congress, although I think at this point, Musk might even want to appear.
Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) claimed that the Trump administration had threatened “the privacy and security of all Americans.”
Lynch stated, “Since President Trump’s inauguration, he has given Elon Musk free reign to terrorize our civil servants.”
He went on, “Was Elon Musk on drugs when he stole your private data?”
Lynch continued, “Musk has been operating without any oversight whatsoever, while posing a very real risk of violating security and privacy laws.”
“The lawmaker was referring to a recent report about Musk battling a drug addiction issue, a topic on which the billionaire tech mogul has not personally commented since it went public.
After Lynch made his request for the subpoena, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who was presiding over the hearing due to chair James Comer’s (R-KY) absence, called for a voice vote.
After the vote was taken, Mace stated that the “nays” won the vote, but Democrats protested because they knew they had more people in chamber than the Republicans did at the time of the vote.
Mace then suspended the hearing until the missing Republicans returned to the room. When Mace was questioned about the delay to ensure that the GOP would win, she said they were just preparing for a recorded vote.
When all bodies were present, Mace called for the vote, and the GOP struck down the measure 21-20.
This was the second time that Dems tried to have Musk subpoenaed, having failed during the first attempt, partly because they were missing at least one member, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), who was present for this most recent vote.
With the way things are going between Musk and Trump right now, they may not need a subpoena, as Musk may be willing to come in of his own volition if he and the president keep this feud going.
Musk took a shot at Trump’s big spending bill, and the dominoes started to fall after that.
Trump fired back that he actually asked Musk to leave the administration, and it was game on from there.
After Trump threatened to cancel Musk’s contacts with the government, Musk said he would move to decommission the Dragon spacecraft, which NASA currently uses on resupply and transport missions.
When Musk alleged that Trump was implicated in the Epstein files, Republicans stated that he crossed a line, so I am sure they want nothing to do with Musk being put under oath right now.
