Wife of influential musician Clarence Avant dead after violent home invasion: Police

Music producer Clarence Avant’s wife was reportedly murdered during a recent home invasion.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the couple’s Beverly Hills, California, mansion early on Wednesday morning.

Police find 81-year-old victim mortally wounded

Much of the state has seen a rising crime rate as progressive Democratic lawmakers opt for a soft-on-crime agenda.

Avant, 90, is known as “the Godfather of Black music” and was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His wife, Jacqueline, was a philanthropist and public figure in her own right and the two had been married for decades.

A suspect, 29-year-old career criminal Aariel Maynor of Los Angeles, has been identified as a suspect in the deadly home invasion.

Police officers responded to the home at about 2:23 a.m. on Wednesday and discovered Jacqueline Avant, 81, with mortal wounds. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Her husband and a security guard were reportedly also at home at the time. Authorities say the suspect was apprehended during a second burglary in Hollywood about an hour later. At that location, he reportedly shot himself in the foot.

“Now, let justice be served”

Maynor is described as a parolee with an “extensive” criminal record.

Wealthy residents in the area have been increasingly victimized in what police describe as “follow-home” robberies. The Avants and others in their neighborhood were reportedly worried enough to hire security — and neighbors are said to be even more frightened after the recent homicide.

“There have been two break-ins nearby in the last few weeks but nothing like this,” one unnamed local told a reporter for The Sun.

Despite reports of organized bands of looters and other brazen criminal acts, Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook insisted that his city is “one of the safest” in the nation. Furthermore, he asserted that crime “will not be tolerated” and law enforcement officers “will not rest until the suspects or suspect in this case are brought to justice.”

The Avant family reacted to the tragic news by expressing gratitude to local police “for their diligence on this matter,” concluding: “Now, let justice be served.”
