Humans have always had a special connection with dogs.
Before his death in 1786, King Frederick II of Prussia said, “the only, absolute and best friend a man has, in this selfish world, the only one that will not betray or deny him, is his dog.”
And a Florida man is behind bars after a Good Samaritan caught him on camera doing one awful thing to his bulldog puppy.
Even if they do not have one as a pet, most people love dogs and will go out of their way to help them.
It is why they are known as “man’s best friend.”
But some people are sick and twisted and abuse these precious animals.
“The FBI has found that a history of cruelty to animals regularly appears in the backgrounds of serial rapists and murderers, and the standard diagnostic and treatment manual for psychiatric and emotional disorders lists cruelty to animals as a diagnostic criterion for conduct disorders,” PETA India reported.
The notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy, admitted to torturing animals as a way to practice murdering people.
Serial killer and cannibal, Jeffrey Dahmer, impaled the heads of dogs and cats on sticks.
That is why a Good Samaritan in Lee County, Florida, called the police when he saw Beckham McLeod abusing his pitbull puppy.
On Tuesday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at the Coast Village Apartments about an incidence of animal cruelty.
“Authorities say 20-year-old Beckham C. McLeod was witnessed by a concerned citizen stomping on, kicking, and dragging his dog, King, a blue-nosed pitbull, on the concrete pavement during a walk,” WFLA news reported. “The abuse continued even after King attempted to escape into a nearby pond,” WFLA continued. “The witness reported seeing McLeod snatch King from the water, remove his shoes, and repeatedly stomp on the dog’s head.”
Once on the scene, the authorities noticed significant bruising on the dog’s neck and questioned McLeod.
“What? I can’t reprimand my dog?” McLeod asked.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno told him there is a difference between reprimanding and abuse.
McLeod was charged with aggravated animal abuse and locked up in Lee County jail.
“As for McLeod, I had a red jumpsuit, orange slides and a cell ready for him at the Marceno Motel,” Marceno said. “I will do everything in my power to make certain McLeod will not own another animal,” he continued. “Once convicted, his name will be placed on our animal abuse registry.”
Marceno praised the Good Samaritan as a “hero” and encouraged others to report instances of animal abuse to the authorities.
“See it, say it, make the call,” Marceno said. “It works. This caller is a hero.”
“If you abuse an animal in Lee County, you will go to jail . . . every time,” he added.
The Good Samaritan’s phone call could have prevented a future serial killer.
