The Fraternal Order of Police has made the tragic announcement that more police officers have been shot and killed this year than ever before in U.S. history. This announcement is made all the more horrifying given the fact that we still have a month to go in 2021.
As of midnight on Tuesday, the FOP had reported that 314 officers shot in the line of duty had been shot in the line of duty this year, with 58 of them being killed.
“We are on pace this year to see the highest number of officers shot in the line of duty in one year ever recorded,” FOP president Patrick Yoes said yesterday, according to Fox News. “We’ve already had more officers killed in the line of duty by gunfire this year than any other — and there is still one month left.”
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: More officers have been SHOT and KILLED this year than any other year—and there is one month left!

“There is no doubt that the recent erosion of respect for law enforcement has fueled more aggression towards police officers than what has been seen in previous years,” Yoes continued. “As violence continues to be aimed at law enforcement, our officers continue to show up every day to keep the communities they serve safe. These men and women run toward danger to protect the public when everyone else is running away.”
The FOP also found that there were have been 95 ambush-style attacks in 2021 so far, up a whopping 126% from the previous year. These ambushes resulted in 118 offices being shot, 28 of them fatally.
Yoes demanded on Wednesday that Congress step up to “address the terrible violence targeting our law enforcement officers and pass the ‘Protect and Serve Act’ to better protect the brave men and women who wear the badge and send a clear message to those who would seek to do them harm.”
Introduced by over a dozen Senate Republicans earlier this year, this bill would making knowingly causing or attempting to cause injury to an officer of the law a federal crime.
“Those saying that America’s #CrimeCrisis is not out of control are either not paying attention or trying to cover for the rogue prosecutors pushing radical policies,” the FOP said in a statement obtained by The Washington Examiner. “To the various media folks who’ve been turning a blind eye to the killings in our streets: do your damn job!”
These numbers sadly come as no surprise, given the way that Democrats have vilified American police officers over the past year. This is what happens when we live in a liberal-run society that glorifies criminals, and demonizes law enforcement.
