While on a recent edition of his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, host Joe Rogan told a hilarious story about preparing for former President Donald Trump’s notoriously aggressive handshake while speaking with Blues duo “The Black Keys.”
Rogan, who has been a commentator for the UFC for nearly two decades, recalled the first time he met with former President Trump at UFC 290 last July.
“Let me tell you something; I was ready for it the first time I met him,” Rogan began.
“First of all, he has normal-sized hands. I have big hands… So I was ready. I knew he was gonna meet him for the first time,” he continued, noting that he had briefly met Trump in passing another time, but had never shaken his hand. “So this time I actually stood up and we made eye contact and I said ‘how are you doing sir,’ and I shook his hand.”
Anticipating Trump’s aggressive and long handshake, Rogan told the band that he “anchored” himself. “I was like ‘not today, not today.’”
However, Rogan says that the second time he shook hands with the former president, which came at UFC 295 in New York City, he wasn’t quite as prepared.
“I’m sitting down and he looks at me and he goes like this,” Rogan said while making a pointing motion. As Trump started to walk towards the podcaster, Rogan leaned over a railing in order to greet him and shake his hand. “I reach over with my hand, and he gets me,” he said, drawing laughs from the band members.
“He really fu**ing got me. He got me good, he got me good… I’m like ‘this motherfu**er learns from his mistakes.’”
Rogan then discussed how multiple left-leaning celebrities, namely Jack White, were upset that he shook hands with the former president, telling them to “settle down and stop crying,” and asking, “Would you be okay if I shook Biden’s hand?”
“Black Keys” lead singer Dan Auerbach then joked that Biden would probably “just come up behind you and sniff your head.”
