Some on the Left are concerned about former President Donald Trump and MAGA’s alignment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump recently invited Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to NATO countries not meeting certain defense spending guidelines. Now, Russia is intensifying its relationship with Iran, and recently launched an Iranian satellite into orbit allegedly for “environmental and agricultural purposes,” spooking some Western powers.
Straight Arrow News contributor Peter Zeihan contends that MAGA’s affinity for Putin poses a significant risk to Western security. Zeihan suggests that this particular faction of the Republican Party empowers Putin, allowing him to test the boundaries of U.S. tolerance and undermine global security.
Excerpted from Peter’s March 20 “Zeihan on Geopolitics” newsletter:
It should come as no surprise that the Russians love meddling around, so let’s see what they’ve been up to lately. We’ll be looking at tech transfers with Iran, North Korea, and China and Russian propaganda in the U.S.
Russia has promised satellite launches to the Iranians and North Koreans in exchange for Iranian Shahed drones and North Korean artillery rounds. In fact, the Iranian satellite was launched about a week ago. The Chinese are getting in on the action too, with naval technology and weapons systems changing hands.
Now with all that going on, you would think America could agree that the Russians are NOT our friends… sadly that’s not the case. The MAGA movement has fallen victim to Russian propaganda, which reaffirms Russia’s ability to disrupt American politics and sow discord (especially during election season).
