Barron Trump, the 18-year-old son of former President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, has been a constant target of the anti-Trump media.
While the young Trump has plenty of defenders in his corner, not many expected one of them to be Chelsea Clinton, who knows exactly what Barron Trump is experiencing as the child of a former president.
According to Fox News, Chelsea Clinton assertively defended Barron Trump, insisting that he has an “unimpeachable right to privacy.”
Given the extreme divide between the Trumps and the Clintons, many praised the former first child for setting politics aside for the issue.
What happened?
Clinton made her stance on Barron’s privacy known during a recent interview on “The View.”
Her thoughts on the matter came in the wake of an NBC executive who recently wrote on X that Barron was “fair game” now that he’s 18, which sparked monumental backlash from all sides, especially given the fact that Barron Trump has nothing to do with his father’s politics.
The former NBC executive, Mike Sington, attempted to clarify what he meant by using “fair game” in a comment to Newsweek following the controversy.
“Someone pointed out to me ‘fair game’ could mean fair game to be harmed. I don’t wish physical harm on anyone, so I took it down. I listen to the comments and criticism I receive,” he said.
Chelsea Clinton was asked by others on the show her thoughts on whether such attacks are crossing the line.
Chelsea responds
“Yesterday Barron Trump turned 18,” a co-host of “The View” said. “There was a debate on social media – I saw it on TV – where some people are saying, ‘OK, he’s now an adult, he’s now 18, he’s now fair game. He’s no longer a child.’ He’s largely stayed out of the spotlight… How do you feel about it?”
“I think he’s a private citizen. I mean, I feel so strongly that if you are a private citizen, you have an unimpeachable right to privacy, and I think the media should leave him alone,” Chelsea Clinton responded.
Clinton was then asked about Donald Trump’s older children and if there should be a difference in the way they’re treated as opposed to Barron. Clinton used logic and common sense — two processes clearly unfamiliar to the hosts of “The View” — to answer the question.
She said that’s a “totally different conversation,” given that his older children were literally “surrogates” of his presidential campaign.
Unfortunately for Barron Trump, there will undoubtedly be nasty media types who want 15 minutes of fame so badly that they’ll likely stoop low enough to go after him. Only time will tell.
