Former President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee clinched a whopping $50 million at his kickoff dinner in Palm Beach, Florida. The event has broken the highest single-fundraiser record for any presidential campaign in the US.
Trump’s dinner smashed Joe Biden’s New York fundraiser, which bagged almost double the amount the incumbent president raised last week.
Trump’s campaign advisors, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, remarked, “Tonight will be an incredible night for President Trump and the Republican Party, raising an astounding $50.5 million.”
“Meanwhile, after locking up the nomination in one of the fastest primaries in modern political history, Donald J. Trump is winning poll after poll and proving that the enthusiasm is on his side. It’s clearer than ever that we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on November 5.”
Despite having struggles clinching support from traditional Republican donors, some of whom previously backed Nikki Haley, Trump was able to retain the support of heavy hitters, such as John Paulson, billionaire hedge fund manager who hosted Saturday’s dinner, Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah, billionaire investor Scott Bessent, and casino mogul Phil Ruffin.
As earlier arranged, a minor portion of the funds raised will be allocated to Trump’s mounting legal struggles, as the Biden camp continues to weaponize the justice system to derail his campaign.
“The success of tonight’s event is proving what we already know: Americans are fed up with Biden’s record of failure, from the open southern border and sky-high inflation to the migrant crime crisis that has made everyone less safe,” remarked Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairman Lara Trump.
“The Republican Party is united behind the effort to elect President Donald J. Trump, and Americans are lining up to join our movement and retire Crooked Joe Biden once and for all.”
Trump also gave a message before the fundraiser. His wife and former first lady, Melania Trump, who mostly shied away from the campaign trail, joins him.
“People are just wanting change. Rich people want it, poor people want it,” quipped Trump.
Meanwhile, Biden’s spokesperson, Ammar Moussa, couldn’t think of a better defense aside from saying, The ultra-wealthy are really mad at Joe Biden for making them pay their fair share.”
Trump’s campaign had earlier pondered that they may not match Biden’s fundraising efforts this year.
Meanwhile, Republican strategist Ron Bonjean suggests that the former president should “figure out ways to continue this fundraising momentum with a combination of large or small dollar events.”
