Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has been in the headlines for various reasons over the past year.
Her latest reason involves her debut as a Broadway producer, according to USA Today. Her production, “Suffs,” according to the outlet, is “a rousing and hopeful new musical that opens April 18 at the Music Box Theatre.”
The play is about women’s suffrage. It’s described as a “riveting true story tracks the yearslong crusade by suffragists to pass the 19th amendment, which was ratified in 1920 and gave women the right to vote.”
In the wake of her failed attempts to become president, Clinton has attempted to make herself a women’s rights icon.
What’s going on?
Not surprisingly, USA Today doted over Clinton’s love of theater, which reportedly started at an early age.
The outlet wrote:
Growing up outside Chicago, the former secretary of state fondly remembers listening to cast albums of “Camelot” and “West Side Story” on a great, big stereo in the living room with her mother. They watched “Singin’ in the Rain” whenever it was on TV, and in college, she finally caught her first Broadway show.
It quoted Clinton as describing her first time experiencing a show, which of course she was only allowed to catch a glimpse of it from the back of the theater.
“I was with some friends in New York and we heard about this new musical called ‘Hair,’” Clinton said.
“We went to the box office and, of course, they didn’t have tickets. But if we hung around, they said they might let us in at intermission to stand in the back. So that was my introduction to Broadway: the second act of ‘Hair.’”

New experience
Clinton said she was “excited” to dive into the world of producing Broadway shows.
“I’ve never had this opportunity before,” Clinton said, according to USA Today. “It’s been exciting for me to not only support this wonderful show I believe in so much but to have a bird’s-eye view of putting together a Broadway production.”
Clinton noted that after she was approached about being a producer, the decision was quickly made to jump on board.
“I said to myself, ‘This is such an important story and I want to help in any way I can,’” Clinton said.
