Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) asserted on Sunday that former President Donald J. Trump “ordered a terrorist attack” on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Jake Tapper, Ocasio-Cortez responded to a question from Tapper regarding Trump’s criminal indictments by the Biden administration’s Department of Justice. Tapper asked, “What do you say to a voter who says, ‘Well that doesn’t look like he’s being treated equally before the law, that looks like somebody that the government is going after.’”

Ocasio-Cortez replied, “This is not about party. This is not about politics. This is about corruption and criminality. We’re talking about an individual who ordered essentially a terrorist attack on the Capitol of the United States in order to retain power.”
She emphasized, “That is not about being a Republican. It is not about being a Democrat. It’s about being an unethical individual, an individual who is subject and prone to criminality.”
Ocasio-Cortez continued, “And unfortunately, this is the state that we’re in. And I actually think that the fact that it’s happening in so many places and so many jurisdictions cuts in the face of that.”
Her comments come amidst Trump’s recent surge in polls following repeated targeting by Biden’s Justice Department and Democratic attorneys general nationwide.
Since leaving the White House in 2021, Trump has faced over 91 criminal indictments by the federal government. Voter surveys indicate a loss of faith in the criminal justice system, with many believing Trump has been unfairly singled out by Biden’s DOJ.
