New York police are looking for two suspects after 19-year-old twins were stabbed, one fatally, at a Brooklyn deli early Sunday.
Samyia Spain was stabbed in the neck and chest and died. Her sister, Sanyia, was stabbed in the arm, WABC reported.
Witnesses said the stabbing took place when the twins rejected a man’s advances. The suspect wasn’t sober, the witness said, and escalated “ten-fold” when the twins said no.
“We (were) all having a good night before this,” the witness said. “We just had left (a party) and we went to the store to get food. We all were getting sandwiches, beef patties just to eat, We’re hungry, we want to go home and this happens.”
Sanyia Spain spoke with the New York Daily News, telling the paper that the deli workers threw the suspect out after he became belligerent. The worker locked the door, then unlocked it to let the twins’ group out when they’d paid for their food.
“When we were done waiting for our food, he let us out of the store,” the surviving sister said. “After he let us out the store, he had locked the door behind us.”
The suspect and his friends were waiting.
“He had a knife in his hand and was saying, ‘I’m gonna stab y’all in the face,’” Sanyia said. “I’m telling everyone to back up. And he pushed little Samyia to the ground.”
The twins older brother stepped in and punched the knifeman, launching a brawl. The man with the knife grabbed Samyia’s phone and stabbed her when she asked him to give it back.
No arrests have been made.
