CHICAGO, IL – A 15-year-old student from Fenger High School, Maari Roberson, is in critical condition after a hit-and-run incident. The teen’s family is pleading with the driver, who fled the scene, to surrender to the police.
Roberson’s mother, Martina Thomas, maintained a continuous vigil at her son’s side, exhausted yet unyielding. The teenager is battling injuries sustained from the accident, which include brain hemorrhage, dual fractured legs, and other traumas. Roberson’s condition remains unstable while being treated at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.
Various surgeries have been performed, and many more are anticipated on his path to recovery. Terry Pickett, Roberson’s father, made a fervent call for prayers for his son and family.
The community rallied around the family near the site of the accident in the Roseland district of Chicago, urging the person responsible to come forward. Early Walker, a local Good Samaritan, has announced a reward of $1,000 for credible information regarding the incident.
Roberson’s sister divulged that her brother’s friends had cautioned him about a speeding vehicle, later identified by police as a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The warning, however, came too late. The driver involved reportedly abandoned the unconscious teen at the scene, providing fallacious contact details to a bystander before leaving and never returning.
Chicago police are currently investigating the incident. No arrests have been made so far, and the family continues to hope for justice and Roberson’s recovery.
