A manhunt that lasted nearly two hours on Friday in San Angelo, Texas ended with a male suspect in custody, police said, but no information has been revealed about the crime he may have committed.
The manhunt began early Friday afternoon during a traffic stop. Police had reportedly pulled over a man on a motorcycle with an expired registration. At that point, the man got off the motorcycle and began to run from Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers, and they gave chase.
It turns out that the suspect, 24-year-old Jonathan Paul Jensen, was hiding in a trailer park and was captured by the troopers, who searched the area with a K-9 unit after he fled.
Jensen was arrested for Evading Arrest Detention in a Vehicle, a 3rd Degree Felony. He remains in detention at the Tom Green County Jail, since he has not yet been arraigned.
Between about 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., residents and others were asked to avoid the area or to stay inside their homes if they were in the area, according to local reports.
It was not clear why police chased the man when he fled from his motorcycle or whether they had a reason to pursue him, other than his action to flee the area when he was stopped.
Fleeing from a traffic stop is itself a crime, and would have been enough of a reason for police to chase the suspect and take him into custody.
Police may also have been motivated to find and capture the suspect if he had an active warrant or they believed he had committed a previous crime.
