Letters to the Editor — Oct. 25, 2021

The Issue: Mayor de Blasio’s order that all city workers get vaccinated or be placed on unpaid leave.

We gave our frontline workers a ticker-tape parade, and we praised them daily for their bravery and commitment (“Blas orders vaccine for all muni workers,” Oct. 21)

Police officers have been confronting criminals without masks or vaccinations. Firefighters have been rescuing people and EMS workers have rushed into crowded housing units to save the sick and dying. They were all hailed as heros.

Now Mayor Putz wants to fire them all for not getting the shot.

I have gotten my shot, but others have the right to not get vaxxed. What a hypocrite Mayor de Blasio is. Stand behind these men and women.

De Blasio has confirmed that all city workers will have to get vaccinated or be placed on unpaid leave.

This will affect their ability to continue earning a salary in the professions they have chosen. Salaries, no doubt, used for groceries and other products essential for raising families.

So, is this an attempt to purge these departments’ ranks of all “non-conformists”? I still haven’t heard of a similar vaccine mandate for all those receiving welfare benefits, food stamps or eWIC cards.

I’m a hardcore right-winger who votes Republican down the line. Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would agree with President Biden, de Blasio or any Democrat — but on the vaccine mandate they are 100 percent correct.

To hell with your personal freedom, to hell with your individual choice — get vaccinated or lose your job.

This is not an issue of freedom of expression, but a public-health crisis. We all have to pull together.

I read that de Blasio will issue a $500 bonus to any New York City worker who complies with his vaccination mandate.Exactly where in the phony budget is this type of bribe located?

I was born and raised In New York City and until recently was always proud of my heritage.

Well one thing is for sure: The mayor believes he will have no problems with his latest mandate.

When citizens took their oaths of office as employees of the city of New York, there was nothing said about being forced to take any kind of drug to keep their jobs.

This mayor cannot trample over city employees’ rights, just because he says so. This city is in bad enough shape with high crime and dirty streets.

Let’s see what happens when a police precinct turns out fewer patrols to protect the public or when the streets get dirtier than they already are.

Thank goodness we only have 10 more weeks of him.

Whitestone

Our mayor now wants all municipal workers to comply with being vaccinated, with no option for testing for COVID-19.

These are the people who worked throughout the beginning of the pandemic without a vaccine and with no questions.

Police, firefighters and EMS workers are being treated like criminals. It is bad enough that citizens must be vaccinated to go indoors to bars and restaurants in the city with the mayor’s decree.

The mayor is making it hard on small businesses. If anything, the mayor and governor must layout plans to lift these mandates.

The mayor, along with the prior governor, have ruined many people’s livelihood. It’s about time to rebuild, not regress.

New Yorkers deserve the chaos they live in every day. They voted for a complete authoritarian tool — not once but twice. He’s a fool who let the greatest city on earth fall into disarray.

New York, you wanted him, and you got his failed policies that are going to impact your children’s lives for years to come.

Crime, filth, lawlessness, mandates, stupidity and corruption will be the legacy of Warren Wilhem Jr.
