President Joe Biden just gave an un-American ultimatum to the country’s first responders, who were celebrated as “heroes” in the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fox News reports Biden having recently expressed his belief that America’s first responders should either get vaccinated against COVID-19 or be terminated from their jobs, at a time when there’s already a shortage of first responders.
Biden’s remarks came on Thursday during the town hall event that was held by CNN, Breitbart noted.
There, host Anderson Cooper noted that “As many as one in three emergency responders in some cities . . . are refusing to comply with city vaccine mandates.” And, accordingly, he asked Biden where he stands, asking: “Should police officers, emergency responders be mandated to get vaccines? And if not, should they be mandated to stay at home, let go?”
“Yes and yes,” Biden replied, adding, “By the way, by the way, I waited until July to talk about mandating because I tried everything else possible. The mandates are working.”
As proof, Biden pointed to airlines where he said upwards of 96% of the employees have gotten vaccinated, and he also pointed to the military where he says that the vaccination rate is around 90%.
Biden went on to say that there are “two things that concern” him. “One,” Biden said, is “those who just try to make this a political issue. Freedom,” he said jokingly, “I have the freedom to kill you with my COVID. No, come on, freedom?”
The other concern, Biden said, is “the gross misinformation that’s out there” regarding COVID-19 vaccines. Biden finished his answer off with his tiring statement that he finds it “mildly fascinating” that Fox News mandates COVID-19 vaccinations at its headquarters.
Emboldened by President Biden’s vaccine mandates, city officials are mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for first responders in cities across the country.
Generally, most have appeared willing to abide by the mandates. However, a large enough percentage of first responders are refusing to get vaccinated, and thus losing their jobs, to raise concerns about first responder shortages. The American Ambulance Association, for example, just revealed that the “nation’s EMS system is facing a crippling workforce shortage.”
Many are asking whether the vaccine mandates are worth it, considering the worker shortages that have resulted, and considering that, at the end of the day, the vaccines neither stop someone from getting or spreading the virus. In addition, first responders present an even more forceful argument against the mandates as many of them have been in contact with COVID-19 positive individuals for over a year now.
In recent polls, Americans have made it clear where they stand on the issue. A solid majority says that people should not be fired from their jobs for refusing a COVID-19 vaccination for whatever reason.
