As crime soars, Biden tells CNN audience he has no problem with cops, firefighters, EMS getting fired over mandates

The following contains editorial content written by a retired Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

BALTIMORE, MD- Law Enforcement Today recently reported on how Joe Biden’s support among police officers has “collapsed,” which was already tepid to begin with.

After his comments at a CNN town hall on Thursday, we can assume it has pretty much flat-lined…not only among police, but among firefighters and EMS as well as he called for unvaccinated police, firefighters, and other first responders to be fired for not being vaccinated.

A little over one year ago at the beginning of the pandemic, police, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders were hailed as heroes, people on the front-lines who continued working throughout the initial stages of the outbreak.

In fact as CNN reported, 231 police officers have died of COVID in 2021…one year, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP). Since the beginning of the pandemic, 476 police officers have died of Covid-19.

And what of firefighters? According to the National Fallen Firefighters Association, 170 firefighters and 78 EMS responders have died of Covid complications as of Sept. 17.

On September 11, 2001, 343 FDNY firefighters died at Ground Zero in New York City, along with 37 Port Authority Police officers, 23 NYPD police officers, eight EMTs and paramedics from private EMS companies, three New York State court officers, and one patrolman from the New York Fire Patrol.

The above deaths do not include those who died from 9/11-related cancers and other illnesses after that date, nor does it include those who have been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma and other cancers and are in effect serving a death sentence.

Yet there was Joe Biden at a CNN town hall ( he won’t do one on say, Fox News) where he was asked the following by host Anderson Cooper, that noted as many as one-third of emergency responders in some major cities are refusing to get the vaccine, Fox News reported.

“I’m wondering where you stand on that,” Cooper asked the cognitively impaired “leader” of the free world. “Should police officers, first responders be mandated to get vaccines? And if not, should they be mandated to stay at home, let go?”

“Yes and yes, Biden stammered.

He then suggested he implemented his vaccine mandate as a last resort, a mandate which is clearly unconstitutional and a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, among others.

“By the way, by the way,” the buffoon stumbled and stammered, “I waited until July to talk about mandating because I tried everything else possible. The mandates are working. All this stuff about people leaving and people getting it, you have everyone from United Airlines to Spirit, all these airlines, all  96, 97% of the people have gotten the vaccine.

All the talk about these folks who are going to leave the military if they’re mandated. Not true. You got about a 90 some percent vaccination rate,” clueless Joe said.

Biden didn’t address the fact that a number of Navy SEALs, who have requested religious exemptions, have been subjected to harassment and intimidation, according to First Liberty Institute general counsel Mike Berry, who represents 34 active-duty SEALs and two reservists.

According to Stars and Stripes, there are currently hundreds of thousands of U.S. service members who remained unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated as of October 10. That number accounts for nearly ten percent of America’s military.

For example, the article cited that while about 90% of active duty US Navy personnel are vaccinated, only 72% of the Marine Corps is.

According to Berry, the highest levels in the Department of Defense are indicating that no religious exemptions, guaranteed under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, will be granted.

This past July, Biden said he would use OSHA to enforce a vaccine mandate on any company with more than 100 employees, or those who refused would have to received weekly tests.

As of this date, Biden nor OSHA have in fact implemented any such mandate. Under the proposed mandate, employers would also be forced to give employees paid time off to get vaccinated and to recover from any side effects incurred.

Laughably, Biden claimed that those who oppose vaccination mandates are trying to make vaccines “a political issue.” Biden also dismissed those who oppose vaccine mandates on the basis of “freedom.”

The funny part (well not so funny really) of all of this is that Democrats, including Biden for four years accused Donald Trump of being a dictator, when in the first nine months of this guy’s administration they have taken dictatorship to an art form.

In clearly one of the most tone-deaf, ill-informed, and disgusting remarks Biden has made in a long series of them, he then mocked those who claim they have a liberty or freedom right not to submit to what is still an experimental vaccine that has only received emergency authorization use:

“I have the freedom to kill you with my COVID,” Biden said, mocking those who are refusing to submit to an illegal mandate. “No, I mean, come on, freedom.”

We would dare to say that Joe Biden has been responsible for more deaths (13 killed in Kabul) than those of us at Law Enforcement Today have collectively.

As is typical for president flip-flop, as a candidate Biden opposed a vaccine mandate. Current statistics show that about 70% of US adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while over 60% of American adults have received both doses.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation citing CDC data, as of October 4, the race/ethnicity of those vaccinated was known among 61% of the population. They reported that 45% of blacks had been vaccinated, while 69% of Asians had been vaccinated.

So clearly, Biden appears to (once again) be targeting blacks, which isn’t surprising given his long history of supporting segregationists, although he’s trying to give the appearance that he’s only targeting “redneck hayseeds” from rural America and Trump voters. Vaccine mandates are disproportionately affecting blacks and other people of color.

Around 24 Republican attorneys general are threatening to sue the Biden administration over the mandates, calling it “disastrous and counterproductive” in a September 16 joint letter to Biden.

“From a policy perspective, this edict is unlikely wo win hearts and minds—it will simply drive further skepticism,” the letter read. “And at least some Americans will simply leave the job market instead of complying.”

Vaccination mandates threaten to decimate already strapped police departments, where officers have been leaving in droves resulting from anti-police sentiment and exploding violence, with little support from Democrat city officials.

For example, Seattle, whose police department has already been devastated by hundreds of early retirements, as well as resignations could see about 40 percent of its officers terminated due to Gov. Jay Inslee’s vaccine mandate.

In Chicago, 21 officers have been placed on non-paid leave for failure to provide their vaccination status as required by Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who is quick to drop the hammer on city employees for violating rules she herself doesn’t abide by.

On October 20, useless bag of wet oatmeal New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that city will require all municipal employees get jabbed or put on unpaid leave.

Meanwhile other cities such as San Diego and Los Angeles have seen officers and first responders pushing back against mandated vaccinations.

Biden, the one-man pandemic, has been dealing with one crisis after another since he was installed in office on January 20.

Biden also couldn’t resist taking a jab at Fox News, blaming them for his atrocious poll numbers (reported, by the way by a left-leaning polling organization, Quinnipiac University). He also repeated a debunked claim that Fox mandates vaccinations for its employees, which has been widely panned.

“I’m doing very well. I think I’m at 3% favorable. But all kidding aside, one of the things I find, do you realize they mandate vaccinations?” Biden said.

“At Fox headquarters?” Cooper asked.

“Yeah, I find that mildly fascinating,” Biden said in a rare moment when he put five words at a time together in semi-coherent fashion.

Fox hosts Tucker Carlson, Greg Gutfeld and others have said that while Fox News strongly suggests employees get vaccinated, there is no mandate that they do so.

We’re willing to give Biden a break, however since his ability to walk and chew bubble gum at the same time is seriously compromised.

Biden was absolutely eviscerated on social media for his suggestion that first responders be fired, especially given the sad state of crime in major cities which has been encouraged across the board by Democrats.

For our previous reporting on vaccine mandates and how police unions were responding, we invite you to:

DIG DEEPER

The following contains editorial content which is the opinion of the author, a retired Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today

MIAMI, FL- A number of unions have weighed in on forced COVID vaccinations for their members, and a large majority are opposed to it. Now, based on requests from their members, a number of police unions, including the country’s largest have come out against the practice, Newsmax reports citing an Axios story.

The Fraternal Order of Police, which represents 356,000 officers across the US, while saying the vaccines are safe and recommends its members get vaccinated, has come out and will not support mandates requiring members to get the vaccine.

“We are a union, and we will defend our members,” FOP executive director Jim Pasco told Axios. “You cannot tell people what to do. It’s still an individual and personal choice.”

Pasco also blasted officials who have threatened to terminate officers over defying vaccination mandates.

In particular, he singled out political hack Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo, former chief of the Houston Police Department where they no doubt held a big party when he left. Acevedo came out recently and told officers who were refusing the vaccination to work elsewhere if they don’t want to get jabbed.

“That’s management’s tantrum,” Pasco said. “That’s not going to work. Have a conversation and encourage officers but don’t act childish.”

Acting childish is nothing new for Acevedo, who as he walked out the door in Houston predicted the homicide rate in Houston would rise, no doubt after he took his “stellar leadership” to South Beach.

Acevedo is something of a media whore, always willing to knock people out of his way when he sees the red light of a television camera. Think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez without the white pantsuit crying at a fake border fence.

In Texas, Acevedo’s penchant for finding the cameras wasn’t lost on political leaders in the state, with one cracking, “He loves the camera more than [Representative] Sheila Jackson Lee.”

Acevedo had fancied himself a future mayor of Houston, however as the abrasive one started looking for support, he found out he wasn’t as popular as he thought he was.

As Texas Monthly noted, Acevedo engaged in routine virtue signaling in the wake of the overdose death of George Floyd—posing with local protesters for photo ops, changing his Twitter profile picture to Floyd, spent more time on television than the scroll at the bottom of your favorite cable news channel.

Yet for all his sucking up, he enjoyed little support in the black community, and Mexican Americans didn’t care for him all that much either.

So it isn’t surprising that Acevedo, who has been the police chief in Miami for less than six months, is already endearing himself to the officers of the Miami Police Department.

Miami isn’t the only city that has said they will implement vaccine mandates. New York’s outgoing inept communist mayor Bill de Blasio said that by Sept. 13, “every single city employee will be expected to be either vaccinated or tested weekly. This means everybody…this means the NYPD.”

De Blasio, who is hated as much among the NYPD as Lori Lightfoot is in Chicago among that police department promised there would be “consequences” and he would be “very tough if a city government employee does not wear a mask and they are unvaccinated.”

Last week, Denver’s public safety manager promised he will discipline police officers and sheriff’s deputies who refuse to get vaccinated after his mandate to do so.

CBS Denver reported that according to a Denver Police Protective Association survey, around 57% of that organization’s members are not vaccinated. Well, you can’t suspend or fire all of them, can you?

Meanwhile in the City by the Bay, San Francisco, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association guaranteed its members will resign en masse or seek early retirement over Mayor London Breed’s vaccine mandate for officers. That association said about a quarter of their deputies are not vaccinated due to religious or other beliefs.

Across the country, a significant number of first responders remain unvaccinated, no doubt concerned about a vaccine that is still in emergency authorization and has yet to be approved by the FDA, which is still without a leader over six months after Biden’s inauguration.

In Los Angeles, around half of the LAPD is not vaccinated. The Los Angeles Times reported this week that a 10th employee of the agency died last week from complications of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the president of the Van Buren Township police and dispatchers union in Michigan told The Detroit News that somewhere around 20% of police and fire officials had threatened to quit if they were forced to get vaccinated.

According to estimates provided by the Fraternal Order of Police, an estimated 500 officers have died from the coronavirus. No statistics are available to show how many officers may have contracted the virus on the job, or how many have spread the virus.

Much of the resistance to the vaccine has come about due to the porous southern border, where tens of thousands of illegal aliens have crossed into the United States, many sick with the coronavirus, and then have been disseminated across the country.

The belief is, if the Biden administration is serious about dealing with COVID as they say they are, they would shut the US-Mexico border.

Some legal experts say employers have the right to mandate vaccinations as a condition of employment, however collective bargaining agreements may trump that.

“Does the state generally have the power to impose vaccination requirements on workers? Historically, the answer has been yes,” said South Texas College of Law at Houston law professor Josh Blackman to Axios.

“Unions don’t like to yield ground,” he said. “They like to fight for every single benefit. So if they’re suddenly giving up members’ rights, then they’re perhaps giving ground for some future collective bargaining battle.”

Stay tuned. When cops dig their heels in, they’re hard to move.

Meanwhile, we recently reported on the San Francisco mask mandate. For more on that, we invite you to:

DIG DEEPER

The following contains partial editorial content which is the opinion of the author.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- Follow the “science,” right? A number of sheriff’s deputies with the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department are threatening to resign over the recent dictate that they be forced to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Epoch Times.

The sheriff’s union last week said a number of deputies will look for employment elsewhere or seek early retirement if they are required to subject themselves to the still-experimental jab.

City officials in San Francisco recently announced they will be forcing all city employees to be vaccinated or face termination. There are around 35,000 city employees subject to the mandate.

Some may be able to escape the mandate for religious or medical reasons, however anyone who refuses the shot without such an exemption are facing termination, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The union, in a Facebook post last Friday wrote that the mandate was out of step from the policy mandated by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, which offered regular COVID testing as an alternative.

In a statement, the sheriffs union said:

“The SFDSA has always promoted Covid-19 Safety and has given out masks as well as face shields to first responders and the public during the peak of the pandemic. We believe the data and science speaks for itself and that masking works.

The problem we are faced with now is the strict San Francisco Mandate which is vaccinate or be terminated. If deputy sheriffs are forced to vaccinate a percentage of them will retire early or seek employment elsewhere.

The majority of Deputy Sheriffs are vaccinated. Approximately 160 out of 700 Deputy Sheriffs are not vaccinated, [and] prefer to mask and test weekly instead of being vaccinated due to religious and other beliefs. Currently, the staffing at the SFSO is at the lowest it has ever been due to the past 9-month applicant testing restriction placed on the Sheriff’s Office by the Mayor.

San Francisco cannot afford to lose any more deputy sheriffs or any responders. If they retire early or quit this will affect public safety even more. We would like San Francisco to be in alignment with the state guidelines which are [sic] require vaccination or test weekly.”

In a statement to the Chronicle, the city’s director of human resources, Carol Isen said:

“It’s really a decision for the health and safety of our employees and our public that we serve.”

The city didn’t address those who have already had the virus and who may have natural antibodies to prevent further infection. Some sources say that vaccinating people who have had the virus and have the antibodies is counterproductive and may in fact be dangerous. However the Associated Press is reporting that the mask mandate is to be obeyed by everyone, including the vaccinated.

San Francisco as well as six other bay area counties have reinstated a mask mandate for all indoor public activities due to the so-called “Delta” variant, a more transmissible but less deadly version of COVID.

“It is unfortunate we have to do this at this point in the pandemic. None of us wanted to be here,” said Dr. George Han, deputy health officer for Santa Clara County, “but the virus has changed.”

Don’t bet that this isn’t exactly where they wanted to be. What’s the saying? “Power corrupts…absolute power corrupts, absolutely.”

As to San Francisco, losing more of its law enforcement personnel will only exacerbate the current crime crisis in the city, which has seen crime soaring and feckless Mayor London Breed promising to defund the San Francisco PD by $120 million to put into “social” programs.

Last year San Francisco experienced a 35% rise in homicides, while so-called “petty” crimes such as shoplifting and public nuisance crimes also exploded.

The refusal of Soros-funded District Attorney Chesa Boudin to prosecute shoplifting crimes has led to an exodus of businesses from San Francisco. There is currently an effort underway to recall Boudin, similar to that of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Editor note: In 2020, we saw a nationwide push to “defund the police”.  While we all stood here shaking our heads wondering if these people were serious… they cut billions of dollars in funding for police officers.  And as a result, crime has skyrocketed – all while the same politicians who said “you don’t need guns, the government will protect you” continued their attacks on both our police officers and our Second Amendment rights.

And that’s exactly why we’re launching this national crowdfunding campaign as part of our efforts to help “re-fund the police”.
