On Sunday, the White House denounced the “dangerous” anti-Israel mobs at one of America’s elite Ivy League schools but the genie’s been allowed to escape the bottle.
The virulent anti-Semitism that has metastasized on American campuses took another alarming turn when the rabbi at Columbia University in New York City warned Jewish students to stay off campus for their safety amid increasingly angry protests.
“What we are witnessing in and around campus is terrible and tragic,” Rabbi Elie Buechler warned students in a WhatsApp message on Sunday morning. “The events of the last few days, especially last night, have made it clear that Columbia University’s Public Safety and the NYPD cannot guarantee Jewish students’ safety in the face of extreme antisemitism and anarchy.”

“It deeply pains me to say that I would strongly recommend you return home as soon as possible and remain home until the reality in and around campus has dramatically improved. It is not our job as Jews to ensure our own safety on campus. No one should have to endure this level of hatred, let alone at school,” he said.
Rabbi Buechler’s putting students on notice comes as a burgeoning tent city of Hamas supporters has swelled, days after the NYPD made a number of arrests that absent of decisive action by campus and political leaders, has done nothing but feed the fervor of the Israel-hating mob.

In a strongly worded statement, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said: “While every American has the right to peaceful protest, calls for violence and physical intimidation targeting Jewish students and the Jewish community are blatantly Antisemitic, unconscionable, and dangerous – they have absolutely no place on any college campus, or anywhere in the United States of America.”

Tough words and far too little too late from an administration that has continually failed to speak out against the rising tide of Jew hate – especially on Ivy League campuses – that has proliferated as the Democratic party has welcomed anti-Semites like “The Squad” with open arms, allowing anti-Israel sentiment to fester in the halls of Congress.
And when it comes to a failure of political leadership, the Biden administration should bear more than a little bit of the blame by not more forcefully condemning the anti-Semitism from its base, likely out of fear that in a close election, Muslims in Michigan could stay home in November and put Trump back into the White House.
Instead of a forceful condemnation of university professors and administrators providing a fertile environment for naive young people to be fed propaganda and lies so to be weaponized by professional Jew-haters – many with open sympathy for terrorists – there have been crickets from the White House.
Biden and his administration have also declined to act as Hamas supporters have shut down critical transportation infrastructure, most recently, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, an act of terrorism that should have merited an appropriate federal response.

And Biden has yet to address the anti-Semitism on campus in a major national address, and won’t in an election year – or ever.
Just like when mayhem and race riots tore across the nation in the summer of 2020 after the death of George Floyd, no Democrat so much as uttered a peep, encouraging the scum of their base just as they’ve done with the anti-Semites who know that there will be no consequences.
As the old Greek saying goes, “A fish rots from the head down” and the White House’s statement won’t do anything to douse the fires of anti-Semitism on university campuses that have become cauldrons of hate.
