A federal appeals court has temporarily paused new rules issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission requiring public companies to report climate-related risks.
The pause was ordered by the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, granting a request from Liberty Energy Inc. and Nomad Proppant Services LLC.
The companies asked that rules be put on hold while it considers the oilfield companies’ lawsuit challenging them.
Over half of U.S. states have filed suits since the rules were released last week.
The court did not provide an explanation when issuing the order.
