Editor note: In 2020, we saw a nationwide push to “defund the police”. While we all stood here shaking our heads wondering if these people were serious… they cut billions of dollars in funding for police officers. And as a result, crime has skyrocketed – all while the same politicians who said “you don’t need guns, the government will protect you” continued their attacks on both our police officers and our Second Amendment rights.
And that’s exactly why we’re launching this national crowdfunding campaign as part of our efforts to help “re-fund the police”.
The following contains editorial content written by a retired Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.
WASHINGTON, DC- During last year’s presidential election, an overwhelming majority of police officers supported Donald Trump, for obvious reasons. While Trump slammed Black Lives Matter protesters who were gutting American cities and assaulting police officers, all that was heard from Biden were crickets. Oh, unless he was criticizing police. He was more than happy to do that.
Fast forward nine months into the Biden regime and what little support Biden had from law enforcement has completely disintegrated, or as the Washington Times reports gone from bad to worse.
Police officers who stayed away from Biden due to his complete lack of any modicum of support while embracing BLM and antifa, whom he defined as only “an idea” rather than what they clearly are—an anarchist, terrorist organization hell-bent on destroying America, believe it’s worse than thy thought it would be.
“It’s been worse than I thought, especially with what I know about Biden,” said Paul DiGiacomo, president of the New York City Detectives’ Endowment Association.
“Biden was once a very strong supporter of the police, but he doesn’t appear to be one anymore,” DiGiacomo said. “Honestly, I haven’t seen anything I can point to in a positive manner.”
Moreover, even those police officers who supported Biden in last year’s election have expressed frustration over his inept handling of crime.
Charles P. Wilson, chairman of the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers, who endorsed Biden personally because of the organization’s nonprofit status, noted Biden’s lack of public support for police has contributed to an overall lack of morale among the nation’s officers.
All of this comes at a time when there have been a record number of resignations and retirements from police departments across the country, primarily in Democrat-run cities.
“It’s an issue the administration should address. A lot of cops—because there is such a focus on reform—think the administration point blank doesn’t care about them,” Wilson said.
All of this came about as the country was recognizing National Police Week, postponed from its typical time period in May due to coronavirus. Biden showed up at the 40th annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service held last Saturday.
As he has done numerous times, he bizarrely talked about his own tragedies while speaking about officers killed in the line of duty. Once again, Joe Biden made it about himself, talking about his infant daughter’s death in a car accident nearly 50 years ago, and the death of his 46-year-old son Beau to brain cancer in 2015.
Biden acknowledged that he didn’t know the police officers personally however claimed to understand the loss of those left behind.
“Although I didn’t know them personally, I know you…I know you,” he said.
No, Biden…you’re wrong. You don’t know any of those left behind, many killed because of harmful, hateful rhetoric from people such as you, your vice president, and members of your party such as Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush and scores of others.

What happened to Biden’s family members was sad and tragic. However it is different from men and women being gunned down, many ambushed just for doing their job. The fact that he even tried to make a comparison between the two is tone-deaf.
One thing he did get right is when he said that “being a cop today is one hell of a lot harder than it’s ever been.” Thank you, Captain Obvious.
He continued, “We’re waking up to the notion [that] unless we change the environment in which the job could be done, we’re going to have trouble.”
Not for nothing there Joe, but we’re already having “trouble,” thanks to anti-police rhetoric emanating from YOUR party. You yourself have come out and claimed that police are basically racist killers.
What the hell do you think people prone to violence are going to do when they hear that you’re basically giving them an excuse to kill police officers?
You know what else makes policing “harder than it’s ever been?”
Mandates—i.e. forced vax mandates which are slated to put tens of thousands of police officers out of their job, along with other first responders who only a year ago were hailed as heroes, on the front lines of the pandemic. Now they’re merely an afterthought, or an inconvenience.
Aside from Biden’s total lack of support for police officers, other complaints cited by law enforcement officers is the total lack of a coherent plan to deal with exploding crime rates, unleashing the Department of Justice on local police departments through pattern or practice investigations, and his support of criminal justice “reform” measures which include gutting qualified immunity for police officers.
One former police officer who is running for alderman as a Democrat in Lockport, New York said he believes the country is less safe under Biden.
“I’m disgusted,” said Paul Beakman. “The administration pretends it’s pro-police with this tremendous overemphasis on the Capitol incident in January. While that attack on my brothers and sisters was horrible, they’ve completely turned a blind eye on public safety in this country.”
The current disdain for Biden comes despite the fact he at one time was a supporter of law enforcement instead of a puppet for the far-left anti-police component of the neo-Marxist Democratic Party.
Biden was a major proponent of the 1994 crime bill passed during the Clinton administration which included grants designed to hire 100,000 more police officers. That bill also included a focus on community policing, and led to increased penalties for criminals.
Police are not the only ones who disapprove of Biden’s handling of crime. An ABC News/Washington Post poll from July showed only 38% of the American people approved of Biden’s handling of the exploding crime rate, with 48% disapproving.
Those numbers have likely cratered since that poll was taken. A September poll conducted by CNN showed 57 percent of Americans were worried about rising crime in their communities.
Republicans blame the surge in violent crime is due to Democrats’ defund the police narrative, police officers’ fear of being sued due to removal of protections, and the Democrat jail break, with mass releases of criminals—some violent—from America’s jails and prisons.
At the police memorial service, Biden couldn’t help himself, using the occasion to once again press for gun control and again pushing the narrative that the January 6 Capitol siege was an “insurrection,” and once again praised Capitol Police officers, Breitbart reported.
“Here, nine months ago, your brothers and sisters thwarted an unconstitutional [no it wasn’t] and fundamentally un-American attack [read the First Amendment] on our nation’s values and our votes. Because of you, Democracy survived.”
He also actually without realizing it (although honestly, that is frequent practice for him) advocated for defunding of police, saying officers should have support of mental health workers, a tactic which has been floated in numerous cities as a means of removing some funding from police officers.
“You shouldn’t be the one having to talk someone off the edge of the roof,” Biden said. “You should have professional help with you.”
He hen pivoted to more gun control, clearly having no idea of the audience to whom he was speaking, with a majority of police officers being opposed to the Democrats’ brand of “gun control.”
“We need to work together to confront the epidemic of gun violence,” he said, claiming officers are “outgunned” in law enforcement issues, ignoring the fact that most killings of officers with guns are caused by handguns.
He claimed that the DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland, when he’s not targeting parents of school kids, was working to remove guns from so-called “dangerous individuals” and was looking to hold gun companies responsible. He’s also pushing for expanding so-called “red flag” laws to take away guns from people deemed “unsafe,” generally done without due process.
“These steps will protect you and protect people you serve.”
If Biden were really interested in protecting police, he’d get off their back, let them do their jobs, and pull back on his draconian vax mandates. Until then, it’s all hollow words and platitudes.
