As this year’s election draws closer, there is growing speculation over who former President Donald Trump might select as his running mate.
One figure that has received attention is Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio. If the results of a new poll are accurate, then his name could be cause for panic at the White House.Â
Poll shows Rubio would draw votes from Biden
According to the Daily Mail, that survey was carried out by J.L. Partners, which asked 1,000 likely voters how they would feel about various vice presidential candidates.

In addition to Rubio, the other options consisted of South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott, former South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Hailey, New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem, and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
The poll found that Rubio would be the most successful at drawing Democratic voters away from President Joe Biden.
Ramaswamy best choice for mobilizing conservatives
James Johnson is a cofounder of J.L. Partners, and he told the Daily Mail, “Though the numbers are tight, our ballot tests with different VP candidates show that different options give a range of paths for Trump, some more optimal than others.”
“The VP candidate with the widest reach does appear to be Marco Rubio: He does best amongst non-graduates, women, and over-65s, the latter two groups being key defense areas for Republicans in the coming election,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ramaswamy would be the worst option when it comes to peeling off Democratic support but the most effective candidate at mobilizing conservatives.
Johnson said the businessman would be the “best” choice “to shore up support amongst Republicans and Independents alike.”
Both Trump and Rubio reside in the same state
The survey determined that while Trump would win the popular vote by a single percentage point if either Rubio or Ramaswamy joined him on the ticket.
However, the former president would lose by varying margins if he went with Scott, Hailey, Stefanik, or Noem as his running mate.
Yet as the Daily Mail pointed out, selecting Rubio would be complicated by the fact that both he and Trump are Florida residents.
The paper claimed that Trump has told associates he would expect Rubio to move out of state should he be selected to run.
