OAKLAND, CA – An Oakland Police Officer was shot Wednesday morning, and a barricaded suspect situation took place afterward.
The incident started around 6:30 am when a resident at a veterans housing building at 21st and Telegraph called 911 to report a call of a man armed with a gun brandishing the firearm at someone.
When officers arrived, the man fired at them, hitting one officer at least once before fleeing.
The officer returned fire and hit the suspect at least once, who proceeded to run into the lobby of the Embark Apartment Building on MLK Way and refused to come out.

Police evacuated the building while they tried to talk the suspect into surrendering. The tactical team, negotiators, and mental health crisis team responded to assist.
Public Information Officer Johnna Watson said, “We took our time. We were very methodical. We established communication with this individual. He was armed with a knife. He started to injure himself, self-inflicted wounds, he started stabbing himself. Negotiators continued to communicate with him, and ultimately it ended in a peaceful surrender.”
The man was taken to the hospital but was not identified other than to say he’s a man in his 50’s. A gun and knife were recovered from the apartment building crime scene.
The officer, who has also not been identified to the media, was taken to the hospital as well. A source has told Red Voice Media that the officer is in stable condition and expected to survive his injuries.
