A Never-Trump Traitor Just Learned This Lesson the Hard Way About Taking on Trump

Establishment Republicans hoped they could move on from Donald Trump.

They got some bad news.

And a Never-Trump traitor just learned this lesson the hard way about taking on Donald Trump.

Ohio Congressman Anthony Gonzalez voted to impeach Donald Trump after buying into Nancy Pelosi and the corporate media’s narrative that Trump incited the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

As soon as Gonzalez voted with Nancy Pelosi to impeach Trump, Republicans in the 16thDistrict in Ohio – which Gonzalez represents – became enraged.

The Ohio Republican Party voted to censure Gonzalez and former Trump administration official Max Miller launched a primary challenge to Gonzalez.

Donald Trump quickly endorsed Miller and polling data showed Miller leading Gonzalez.

Gonzalez finally succumbed to the political reality that Miller was likely to bounce him from Congress and Gonzalez stunned the political world by retiring.

The two-term moderate congressman tried to put a positive spin on Trump running him out of Congress by claiming he made this decision in the best interest of his family.

“Since entering politics, I have always said that I will do this job for as long as the voters will have me and it still works for my family. As Elizabeth and I consider the realities of continuing in public service while juggling the increasing responsibilities of being parents to our two beautiful children, it is clear that the best path for our family is not to seek re-election for next fall,” Gonzalez wrote.

Of course, whenever a politician says they are retiring to spend more time with their family it’s code for they are immersed in scandal or they know they can’t win re-election.

Gonzalez took a cheap shot at the Republican Party on his way out the door calling the Trump-dominated GOP “toxic.”

“You have given me and my family tremendous strength and courage in the face of much adversity these past few months and years. While my desire to build a fuller family life is at the heart of my decision, it is also true that the current state of our politics, especially many of the toxic dynamics inside our own party, is a significant factor in my decision,” Gonzalez added.

Donald Trump spiked the football in a statement responding to Gonzalez quitting in the face of a Trump-backed primary challenger.

Trump wrote:

RINO Congressman Anthony Gonzalez, who has poorly represented his district in the Great State of Ohio, has decided to quit after enduring a tremendous loss of popularity, of which he had little, since his ill-informed and otherwise very stupid impeachment vote against the sitting President of the United States, me. This is no loss for Ohio or our Country and, most importantly, we have a great candidate who was substantially leading Gonzalez in the polls, Max Miller, who I have given my Complete and Total Endorsement.
