Temple City, CA – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Deputy Cameron Blain Fish died in an single-vehicle crash on Sept. 16.
The off-duty 33-year-old deputy was driving his 1967 Cobra 427 roadster at a high rate of speed in the area of Freer Street and Santa Anita Avenue at approximately 2:20 a.m. when he failed to “safely negotiate a curve in the roadway,” the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said, according to KTLA.
Deputy Fish’s vehicle veered into the center median before crashing into a street sign and a light pole.
The force of the impact ejected Deputy Fish from the vehicle and crushed the left side of the car so badly, it was barely recognizable, KTLA reported.
His 28-year-old female passenger suffered moderate head injuries and was rushed to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center for treatment, CHP spokesperson Officer Rodrigo Jimenez told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Investigators said it is unclear whether or not Deputy Fish and his passenger were wearing their seatbelt or if there were other factors in the deadly collision, KTLA reported.
Deputy Fish died from his injuries at the scene.
The LASD confirmed deputy Fish’s death later that afternoon.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Deputy Cameron Fish who was involved in a single-vehicle traffic accident and succumbed to his injuries on 9/16/21,” the department tweeted. “The @LASDHQ family is saddened by this loss, and extends our condolences to Deputy Fish’s family.”
Deputy Fish served the LASD for 12 years, sheriff’s office spokesperson Deputy Miguel Meza told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
He was assigned to bailiff duties at the Clara Shortridge Folz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles, according to the paper.
