The Biden administration is under fire for diverting a whopping $1 billion of taxpayer funds towards making federal ports of entry along America’s northern and southern borders green, converting them to be more “environmentally friendly.”
Despite the ongoing illegal immigration surge straining resources, the General Services Administration (GSA) announced its plan to utilize Inflation Reduction Act funds for climate initiatives, a move met with staunch criticism from Republicans and experts alike.
House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman condemned the administration’s priorities, asserting, “the Biden administration is refusing to address a problem of their own making.”
Westerman highlighted the administration’s failure to confront the border crisis while focusing on a billion-dollar investment in green technology. He accused the administration of “fiddling while Rome burns.”
Westerman’s concerns are echoed by others, including James Massa, CEO of NumbersUSA, who criticized the administration’s contradictory actions.
“In addition to endangering those millions of people by encouraging them to travel at the hands of cartels, these journeys across Central America to the U.S. southern border are devastating to croplands and wildlife habitat along the way,” Massa told Fox News Digital.
While the administration touts sustainable technologies at the border, Massa pointed out that the influx of migrants exacerbates environmental degradation and strains local resources.
The GSA outlined its plan to allocate the funds, with initiatives aimed at reducing operational emissions and implementing energy-efficient measures at border crossings. Projects include installing solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, and developing all-electric buildings. However, critics argue that such efforts are misplaced amid the border crisis.

Republican lawmakers have repeatedly sounded the alarm about the intersection of illegal immigration and environmental degradation along the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite efforts to address the issue, the administration appears to prioritize climate initiatives over resolving the crisis at hand.
