Three Words Turned Out to Be the Biggest Mistake of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Life

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s penchant for publicity stunts backfired majorly.

Ocasio-Cortez wanted to make a splash and instead made a spectacle of herself.

And these three words turned out to be the biggest mistake of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s life.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attended the Met Gala wearing a dress displaying the message “Tax the Rich.”

Ocasio-Cortez attracted social media mockery for attending an event that symbolizes the decadence of the celebrity class as artists and entertainers parade around in absurd outfits at an event that costs $30,000 per ticket to attend and is the closest experience in America to late-stage Roman Empire elite debauchery.

Critics mocked the New York congresswoman as the picture of champagne liberalism that purports to serve working-class Americans while catering to the cultural norms and whims of the elites.

Ocasio-Cortez’s attempt to defend herself on social media quickly went awry.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s first tweet had many wondering if she admitted to committing a crime.

Ocasio-Cortez claimed someone gifted her a $30,000 ticket to attend the Met Gala.

“And before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions for the public,” Ocasio-Cortez posted on social media. “I was one of several in attendance in this evening.”

That’s a problem because ethics mandate that elected members of the House of Representatives cannot accept gifts at or above $50.

Ocasio-Cortez then posted another tweet that was far less serious, but which again made the “Squad” member look ridiculous.

The New York congresswoman posted about how her dress was designed by an immigrant.

An immigrant who hailed from Canada.

“Proud to work with @aurorajames as a sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant designer who went from starting her dream @brothervellies at a flea market in Brooklyn to winning the @cfda against all odds – and then work together to kick open the doors at the Met,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “The time is now for childcare, healthcare, and climate action for all. Tax the Rich.”

Ocasio-Cortez then claimed critics policed her body by criticizing her dress claiming the “medium was the message” despite the fact that “tax the rich” was printed across the part of her dress covering her butt.

In the end, Ocasio-Cortez and the crowd at the Met got what they wanted out of the episode where some of the wealthiest, most powerful and most privileged members of society pretend like they are in solidarity with the middle-class despite the fact that they are wearing costumes costing tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars all because Ocasio-Cortez wore “tax the rich” printed across her rearend.
