American academia has become firmly entrenched in progressive leftist ideology, certainly at the college and university level, but also increasingly at lower educational levels like high school and even elementary school, whether of the public or private variety.
One former teacher at an elite private school in New York found that out that hard way when he was essentially compelled to resign his position after pushing back against that ideology that was being foisted upon the faculty and students, and he recently shared his experience in a special interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
That former teacher is Paul Rossi, who chose to resign when faced with an ultimatum by the school after he internally challenged and then spoke out publicly against racially segregated Zoom calls for students and faculty and other leftist indoctrination that stemmed directly from critical race theory (CRT).
“As a teacher, my first obligation is to my students,” Rossi said in a statement. “But right now, my school is asking me to embrace anti-racism training and pedagogy that I believe is deeply harmful to them and to any person who seeks to nurture the virtues of curiosity, empathy, and understanding. Anti-racist training sounds righteous, but it is the opposite of truth in advertising.”
“For many years at my school, I had been watching the effects of some of these teachings — [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion] DEI training, which is CRT-informed, or informed of the offshoots of CRT,” Rossi told Carlson in the special.
“There are some good things about DEI, to be fair,” he continued. “But what I saw happening was that students were being led to identify with their group identity, and really to — in a period of identity development, which is really important for students of that age.”
“It is minimizing the personal side of [humanity], and being taught to embrace the collective side of it, the group side, which meant race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation,” Rossi said. “These things were the most significant part of their identity. And I saw that playing out and having deleterious effects, not just on the culture of the school, but on the kids themselves.”
What finally pushed him to speak out was the racially segregated Zoom calls, in which the content of discussion for the whites-only call was “substantially different” than that of the call for non-white students and faculty.
Rossi shared how his speaking out had served as encouragement for other students who had quietly shared their discomfort with what was occurring but were too intimated or fearful of reprisal to speak out.
Standing in defiance
Rossi had first gone public about what was happening inside Grace Church High School in Manhattan in an April op-ed that exposed everything and drew fierce blowback in response from those who espouse and support divisive CRT-inspired indoctrination.
His problems with the school were only compounded a week later when, in response to the pushback he’d received, according to the New York Post, Rossi released audio recordings of the school’s principal privately agreeing with him on the harmful nature for students of the indoctrination that was being shoved down their throats.
Though Rossi may have lost his job, and potentially even his career, for standing up in defiance to the radical leftist indoctrination that has permeated academia, his sacrifice will hopefully embolden others to take a stand as well against the divisive teachings that are actually counter to all of the supposed goals of that ideology.
