Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced on Monday the state will fine cities and counties that mandate COVID-19 vaccines for employment, revealing it could cost offenders $5,000 per violation.
“We are gonna stand for the men and women who are serving us. We are gonna protect Florida jobs,” DeSantis said, according to The Hill.
“We are not gonna let people be fired because of a vaccine mandate,” DeSantis added.
The announcement comes on the heels of DeSantis scoring a major state appeals court victory which sided with the governor on his orders that ban mask mandates in Florida schools, as the Washington Examiner reported.
It’s a personal choice
“You don’t just cast aside people who have been serving faithfully over this issue, over what’s basically a personal choice on their individual health,” DeSantis said.
“We cannot let these folks be cast aside. We cannot allow their jobs to be destroyed,” the governor added.

It’s not about science
“I don’t support mandates at all, but if you’re doing mandates based off of this, if you were really following science, you would acknowledge natural immunity. And instead, they ignore it,” DeSantis said during his announcement.

Many believe the only “science” that the new COVID-19 vaccine mandates are based on is political science, and certainly not the actual medical science that Democrats have preached about for over a year.
The Florida governor is not the only leader to push back on President Joe Biden’s latest vaccine mandate announcement. More than 20 additional Republican governors have vowed to oppose the new regulations in some form or another.
According to the Associated Press, South Dakota’s Kristi Noem (R) and Georgia’s Brian Kemp (R) have both already announced plans to sue the Biden administration over his vaccine mandates. The Republican National Committee (RNC) also has a lawsuit in development, according to its chairwoman, Rona McDaniel.
