Planned Parenthood Tried to Exploit Former President’s Miscarriage as a Publicity Stunt

Reports of Planned Parenthood’s cruelty toward women and babies keep growing.

The latest comes from one of its former CEOs, Dr. Leana Wen.

In her new book “Lifelines: A Doctor’s Journey in the Fight for Public Health,” Wen accused the abortion chain of trying to exploit her in her grief after she miscarried her unborn child, the Christian Post reports.

Wen was hired as CEO of Planned Parenthood in 2018 and was fired about eight months later after she said the board accused her of not focusing enough on abortion and politics.

Mid-2019 was a tumultuous time for Wen. In the midst of the conflicts at work, she said she suffered a miscarriage – a loss that was “devastating in a way that I couldn’t have anticipated.”

Rather than sympathize with her loss, Planned Parenthood tried to exploit it to save its public image, according to Wen’s account. She said Planned Parenthood asked her to either focus more on abortions or quit, and it wanted to use her miscarriage to explain her departure.

“This was offensive and hurtful on so many levels,” Wen wrote.

She said she decided to share about her miscarriage publicly before Planned Parenthood got the chance to do it for her.

Here’s more from Business Insider:

Wen had told a colleague about her pregnancy loss, who told others without Wen’s consent. Once the idea to use the heartbreak for public relations purposes circulated, Wen decided to take control by writing an op-ed for the Washington Post “so as not to have this deeply personal experience stolen from me,” she wrote.

“I could not fathom the additional trauma if this news were made public by others who wished to use it for their own purposes.”

Afterward, Wen said some abortion activists criticized her for sharing publicly about her miscarriage, claiming it “stigmatized” abortion.

A short time later, while Wen was working with her lawyers on finalizing her decision to quit, the board voted to fire her instead. She said she learned about the vote from the New York Times.

The New York Times also reported on a leaked letter from Wen to the Planned Parenthood board of directors in which she accused them of trying to “buy [her] silence” by withholding her severance package as “ransom” to get her to sign a confidentiality agreement. Planned Parenthood said Wen’s accusations were “simply untrue.”

Planned Parenthood replaced Wen with one of its own: Alexis McGill Johnson, a long-time board member with close ties to Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and others powerful elites. Her background is in politics.

Though Wen received little compassion from Planned Parenthood leadership, she said she still supports abortion and has “deep empathy” for staff who “put themselves on the line for its mission,” according to Insider.

But she is not alone in her complaints. A number of former Planned Parenthood employees have left the abortion chain complaining about its focus on abortion, money and power, not women’s healthcare.

The billion-dollar abortion chain aborts more unborn babies than any other group in the U.S. Its latest annual report, which is publicly available online, shows more than 354,000 abortions, about 40 percent of all abortions in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the same report showed that many of Planned Parenthood’s actual health services continue to decline. It provided less contraception, sterilizations, cancer screenings, adoption referrals and other women’s health services than the previous year, mirroring a continued downward trend.

Its patient numbers also have been dropping steadily over the past decade amid numerous reports of alleged unethical and illegal activities by Planned Parenthood, including selling aborted baby body partsbotching abortions that killed womencovering up the sexual abuse of minorsdiscriminating against pregnant and racial minority employees, exploiting young girls by selling cross-sex hormones and more.
