Much of the political punditry seemed to believe that former President Donald Trump, now out of the White House and banned from major social media platforms, was for all intents and purposes no longer a key player in the political game.
That isn’t actually the case, however, as federal disclosures revealed that political action committees aligned with the former president had raised an astounding $82 million over the first six months of the year, the Washington Examiner reported.
Trump is now reportedly sitting flush with approximately $102 million in cash on hand ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, in which he is expected to weigh in with his endorsements and financial support for candidates who are in line with his America First policy ideals.
Historic amount of fundraising
The stunning news of the unexpected size of Trump’s fundraising haul between January and June was first reported by Politico, which noted that no other former president has ever raised as substantial an amount of money after leaving office.
Trump’s Save America PAC appears to have received the bulk of the donations that flowed in, about $62 million, while the Make America Great Again PAC — his old campaign now converted to a PAC led by former adviser Corey Lewandowski — had brought in at least $5 million since being created in March. The remainder of the funds came from a joint fundraising committee affiliated with the two other PACs.
Politico noted that there are very few restrictions on what these PACs can do with the funds, aside from a $5,000 per year limit per donor, and a prohibition against funneling the money into a presidential campaign.
Otherwise, the accumulated funds — which will undoubtedly grow larger throughout the rest of the year and into next year — can be used to pay for such things as “travel, events, advisers, ad campaigns, and supporting candidates and other political activities,” according to the outlet.
Fox News reported that in addition to the fundraising sum for the Trump PACs being the most in history for any former president, the amount also topped that raised by the House and Senate Republican fundraising committees and very nearly matched the six-month total of the Republican National Committee (RNC), which reportedly received $85 million in donations.
Trump “grateful” for support
Former President Trump issued a statement Saturday through his Save America PAC that heralded the fundraising news and pointed out that the roughly $82 million raised in six months had come from 3.2 million individual contributions.

“These fundraising numbers, coupled with tremendous support in so many other ways, show that President Trump’s supporters want him to continue the fight for the America First Agenda and the truth in the 2020 elections,” his statement declared.
“On behalf of the millions of men and women who share my outrage and want me to continue to fight for the truth, I am grateful for your support,” Trump added.
