Pelosi has traded in “Follow the Science” for “Listen to my commands, not science.” Pelosi has demanded that all members of Congress be forced to wear masks in the House regardless of what science says.
But, then we already knew that Democrats only follow science if it agrees with them or if they can make up science with their sympathizers swearing their beliefs have anything to do with science. Case in point is global warming.
The day started off with Democratic members giving one-minute speeches for some cheap publicity and strangely, no Republicans were in the chamber. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) was in the chair, presiding over the farce.
But, he was soon flustered by Republicans filing in together en masse and fully equipped with masks. Raskin sent someone to ask Pelosi to come to the floor, but she returned his messenger with instructions for him to handle it.
Raskin could not shake the idea that the Republicans were up to something. Only 10 Republicans were there except for the 10 who voted for impeachment. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger now sport masks autographed by Nancy Pelosi.
Kevin McCarthy in a rare instance of showing some backbone took advantage of the fact that the missing reps were giving interviews to the WaPo on their impeachment votes.
He was also able to keep his intentions secret even though all Republicans but the ten were aware of what would soon happen in the House chamber. Raskin had Jerry Nadler take over the chair as he went to plead personally with Pelosi to come to the floor.
That played directly into McCarthy’s plan as Pelosi accompanied Raskin down to the floor. Raskin had also sent a messenger to herd as many Democrats into the chamber as the messenger could find. The stage was set and a trap was subsequently sprung.
“Would the minority leader care to explain to the House the purpose of this gathering at a time when no vote is being taken and no debate has been authorized,” Pelosi gruffly said to McCarthy, who had by this time stationed himself at the front of Republican side of the chamber’s seating.
“On behalf of the American people, we duly elected and constitutionally faithful Republicans of the House of Representatives have a message for you, Madame Speaker.” McCarthy paused for a few seconds to let his words settle in the ears of those in the chamber and galleries, as well as the C-SPAN audience that had no idea what was about the occur.
The clock had clicked a few more moments when, in unison, every Republican representative stood up, took off their masks and placed them on plates they had somehow managed to bring into the chamber, pulled out a lighter from their pockets and purses, and burned the cursed material.
“Madame Speaker, I offer a privileged motion to require you to …” McCarthy, now joined at the front by Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and members of the House Freedom Caucus, began to speak.
Talk about ‘in your face’, this was a perfect example. It will be interesting to see where things go from here. I love bonfires.
